Need some help with skinning! :)

Post by Modtrocity »

EDIT: I also need to know how to change the warthog to first person view, and make the view actually be behind the wheel. Rather than underneath the warthog.

Ok, I'm very new to modding, I know only the basics. I've softmodded my xbox, got dothalo and the essential programs to go with it. That's about it.

I need help with a few things. My goal is to learn how to skin, so I can skin Coagulation and the warthogs for ultimate Warthog wars action (lol). I have no clue where to start, what programs are needed, or anything. I'll be reading numerous threads around the forums to help me out. In the mean time, if anyone could help me out with the basics, like what programs I need, how to do the primitive things, good tutorials to use, blah blah blah. I also need to know how to gain access to the old maps in Halo 2. I've read tutorials where you need a dvd or something. I have 10 8.5mb dvds if I need them.

My main goals for now are:

- Skinning the warthogs and Coagulation.

I know this is alot to ask, but if someone would be willing to help a n3wb out, I would be much obliged!

If you know a link where I can download a program I need, please post it.

(I already have photoshopCS2)

Thanks everyone, and I hope to become an experienced active member of this community!

A. Skinning the hogs and the map: Tutorial here.

B. Taking the turret off:
1. Go to the vehi tag in dot halo of your map.
2. Go to warthog chaingun.
3. Go to the dependency window.
4. Click on every single item in that list, and change it to null.
5. Load the map, it wont be there.

C. Changing the weight:
1. Go to the vehi tag again, but this time, go to the warthog tag.
2. This time go to the tag editor window.
3. Look around until you find the weight value (box thingy).
4. Edit it as you please.

Hopefully I can get it to turn out well. :P

You'll need dvd2xbox, can be found in the usual places, do you have a bigger HD installed in your xbox?

I'm using the orginal xbox, and have not changed anything.

Crap, I guess I can't get the old maps until tomorrow because I'm away from my xbox. Thanks for the link Fox, I'll do that tomorrow. In the mean time I'll fool around with dothalo...

It will still fit, just don't transfer campaign maps.
Also, most dashboards support file copying (disc to harddrive).
You don't really need a separate program to do it.

You mean the dashboard of the Xbox? If so, what do you mean?

You seem rather new to modding the xbox. Here, go to that website and join their forums, they can help you out alot more than we can.

All I know how to do is use dothalo to mod weapons and such.

I checked out those forums. They look way to chaotic. I don't think I'm THAT newb. :\

All I need to do now is get the old maps tomorrow, and figure out what I need for skinning. (Program-wise)

I have a quick question, not related to this thread.

About bumping, if a thread creator is looking for more help about their topic, and no one is posting, is it ok to bump the thread after it's fallen off the first page, or should they still wait until five days have past?

I double posted to bump this, but if I should not have bumped it, please let me know.

(I've read the rules) :)

I don't think you are allowed to bump even if it does goes off the first page etc. You shouldn't have double posted, just use the edit button. If you do have other questions you can make new topics, but don't make more than one topic on the same question.

The rules state that you can bump your thread after five days. If you have to wait five days, and you still need help with the topic, then what do you do? Just wait for someone to view the tenth page and hope they see your thread?

I know how to use the edit button ^_^

If you need help and it's been five days you can bump the topic if that's what your asking.
