Meta, what is it and how do I use it?

Post by Magical_Beans »

Okay, I have been reading up on a lot of tutorials lately, and a question has dawned in my mind. What is "meta"? Is it like a tag, only in code form, or something else entirely? Like for instance, let's say that I want the Halo Combat Evolved Warthog, could I get the meta, and import it into a Halo 2 map? Is that how it works?

I know that taking models, sounds, ext, from Halo CE is frowned on, but I intend only to make a personal mod. Since I own both games, would that make it illegal for me to make a mod, even though it is only for personal use?

I'm sorry if this has been asked before, but I can't seem to find anything that really covers this. Thanks for your response.

Meta is data within a tag. Numbers 'n' shit yo... First off... do you even have a modded xbox? cause asking what meta is is really n00bish. I really didn't read your post.

As for the CE to halo 2 ripping-is 100% illegal even for yourself but if no one knows it won't hurt them.... As for the flaming on his post that is totally unnecessary.

Meta is the information of the tag. Like how it works,m Its dependancies, and some other stuff.

Yeah... I knew thatr meta is a value or someting like that, but I meant to ask can you use those values to transfer models and such. But really, why the flame? This is sorta like the help section...

I also do have a modded box. Have had one since 05. I just could never mod because of my nine year old piece of crap PC. By mod I mean create my own mods, I still downloaded mods. Now that I have a brand new laptop, I am really eager to mod.

you need to find a tutorial on extracting and injecting models. I'll find a link and post one later....

http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.ph ... 23&t=59555 theres one for remodeling.

as far as just transferring models from one map to another, just recursively extract the objects from one map and build them into another. Entity works well for this.

If you have a model in a map and save it and build it, it works. I've done it.

Yeah, but the thing is, how do I get the model in the map via meta, unless you can direct me to a model extractor for Halo 1 xbox. :?:

Halo 1? This is a Halo 2 forum. I would have no clue so you may want to post there about extracting models.

Yeah as far as extracting models from halo 1 to halo 2 i have no idea. Post in the halo 1 forum. I'm sure there is more that save and inject. the meta will probably get messed up along with the dependencies
