Light from Light spray tool in Sapien doesn't save...

Post by WaZzA »

In Sapien up the top left corner next to the pencil is a tool used for greating fake light in maps where radiosity has created shaddows and you don't want them there.

I have just finished making an underground map for a short film a friend and I are making, and am using that fake light for most of the lighting since I didn't want heaps of lights built in to the level. BUT the problem is, I can't seem to get the light in Sapien created by that tool to stay there when I close Sapien or when I compile the map...

before anyone comments :P --> I have tried radiosity_save and HAVE saved the scenario hahaha.

Any ideas how to fix this problem?
Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks :)

i dont think that is supposed to do anything outside of sapein. you may need too just go ahead and rebuild the map with some lights in it.

Light created in Sapien using light air brush doesn't save

Post by WaZzA »

Oh... are you sure? I thought it was.. I saw a video tutorial and it was used as part of that. Hmm let me see if i can find this tutorial it was a while ago..

aahh yeah thats the tutorial --> http://hce.halomaps.org/index.cfm?PG=3&fid=1521
It's the 6th tutorial in a set showing how to build a tunnel in to a map. The part that I thought would be handy was the light tool used in this tutorial where he uses it to completely light the tunnel.

It would kinda be silly if half this tutorial was spent in sapien lighting the map when it doesn't matter anyway.

Any comments at all would be handy now :P hahaha
And if it is possible to save this light that would be nice to know :P

well then i guess it does have a use. maybe you have to run radiosity after you do the lighting and then you save the radiosity after its run.

Haha, yeah i could do that, but its for a movie and i wanted to make the least amount of lights as possible but still have light, and it would be nice to know how to get that spray tool to work properly even if i don't end up using it, for future reference and for other people who might need to know the same thing.

So I guess I should say, only comments here from now on should be on how to get it to work. If no comments are here after this, then use real lights :P

Thanks again for your participation wanksta.

Edit: (05/07/07)
I decided to make the floor shader and the ceiling shader emit light at a power of 1, that did the trick and lit up my map well. But if anyone knows how to fix that problem it would still be good to know (would help other people who are interested and be a handy tool for touching up levels).
