While that is true in a sense, they could have just released a Zune with all these features as a different name. Yet they put a Halo 3 design on it and loaded it with some Halo content for Halo 3 promotional purposes.Tural wrote:
It's hardly milking the brand in this case, because it does come with a lot of content. It's not just a regular Zune with "Halo 3" slapped on it.
I personally don't see the point...then again I'm just happy with my clippy iPod shuffle.
Also, they are taking advantage of fan's excitement by releasing all of this "Halo 3 exclusive" crap which they know people will buy (thing such as the Zune). I dunno why they can't just leave it how they did with Halo 1 and 2...but meh, their choice.

I don't consider releasing a bunch of original content to be milking the brand. That's like saying putting out a new game in the series is milking the brand.
They're doing it for Halo 3 because it's the grand finale of the story arc.
If people will buy it, it is good business. It's a win-win situation. People who buy it get the item, the company gets the money. The sole downside is that some people don't like it. That doesn't really hurt them much at all.

Being a user of both, I can easily say that the Zune is far more superior. Even though they say "oh DRM all bad...." you can actually modify the Zune to add shared folders that dodge the 3 Day-3 Play stipulation. And the fact that iPod Fanboys rag on the Zune for having Wi-Fi, but no internet. Last I checked, theres no way an iPod, Wired or Wireless to share music at all without going to one's house and loading it via iTunes. Besides, for a Zune-Equivalent iPod, It('s):
A: has better scratch resistance and doesn't collect fingerprints as easy
B: has actual Music sharing capabilities
C: interchangable Hard drive to boost it from 30GB all the way up to 100GB without Physical size increase or dimensions of the Zune itself.
D: FUGGIN' WIFI! Great potential on such a device.
E: Actual changeable theme. Not just a white background, but customizable wallpapers.
Only issue I got with it, is that it's really dark, and can sometimes be really hard to see in direct sunlight. There's no option to turn off the backlight completely so unlike the iPod, you cannot fully turn off the backlight.
Also for you non Americans, Have you tried buying one via eBay or through a friend or relative in the states?

Have you properly used the zune Dwells? Or have you just seen someone else with it or used it for 2 seconds with a handful of bias? Or you just browse the internet and join the anything but xbox by microsoft is bad buggy ugly and copied parade?
Australia doesn't get a good video marketplace for xbl, shoulda said that...
Anyway, A h3 zune looks pretty kool...But as I said about having another, rather good mp3/4 player, no need to try and import it...Plus I have always disliked large players like the iPod, Creative players and yeah the zune...
