whoa, that looks awesome
I made a vehicle completely invisible, it wasn't distorted or anything. I did it by replacing the Shader model of the desired part on the warthog with the Flame Char effect (I put the wrong thing on there, I was trying to make the warthog look like it was on fire).
Anyways, something that looks REALLY cool is if you replace the slip sand effect with the Flame Char effect, do it and see what happens

i know
go into hmt and look 4 the hog's bitmap in bitmaps [bitm]
vehicles\warthog\bitmaps\warthog
that is the warthog's main body. following it are other bitmaps 4 the hog like it's wheels and turret and other stuff.
then go to
levels\a10\bitmaps\cryo glass
copy it's meta and offset then paste them in the warthog's offsets and metas and click the save buttons next to each.
then you could (if you want to) trade the hog's shaders (in shaders, [soso])with
characters\cyborg\shaders\shield hit
(that one's in shader plasma, [spla])
the same way you did with the hog's bitmaps.
OR you could waste time and edit all of the hog's bitmaps in photoshop with our little friend called the paintbrush (set on clear instead of normal, of course) then do the same thing with the shaders. i suggest the first one
