About making maps from scratch in 3DSMax or W/E

Post by killgore333 »

Is it possible at all to model a level, then export it correctly, bring it into a map editor (like the Halo 1 CE maps), and then have them saved into the correct halo2map format?

I have been getting into learning 3D modelling, and I would really like to start building custom maps for people to download. Is it possible at the moment?

How is that? People have been modding Halo 2 for a while now, and you guys and come up with some crazy stuff. How come you guys haven't been able to figure out the code, even though you guys have hacked, modded, and completely changed Halo modding forever.

What makes it completely impossible for this? is it because we do not have the programs that Bungie uses?

its because the way the bsps are build I cant really go into too much detail but we dont have enough information, and with h2 vista around the corner it might just be easier to build the bsp with that and just convert it

I remember seeing a level once as a mod video, it was a room with manilla colored walls. It had everything from character models and weapons and vehicles in it. What exactly was that? I'm sure it was a mod.

As much as I would like to figure things out, I don't have much experience with programming. It seems really rather easy to create an BSP or SBSP exporter for Max or Maya.

ya the new crazy maps that are made are bsp's the only way to make like brand new maps would be to do it for halo 1 how idk my friend does it for halo 2 but the maps are so small and simple that its just really a waste of time

I bet, your friend makes a injects a model, then nulls the sbsp. So it is just an object, not a true sbsp.

If it's a new map who really cares?? As long as there's new gameplay I'd be satisfied.

Just rename the shared map to a custom level name and change internal name with hex. I never done the shared map. I will try that, Also the sp shared map playable is called the Land Fill. I couldn't get out of this map, So watch it.

One of the maps doesn't have an MC Spawn point, so you just don't even get to see the map, if there is any BSP.

Ok then just use a elite character then. Unless it has no spawns

It's not that there's no spawnpoint - if I remember right, there's 1 spawn point, but a box spawns on top of it, so you can never spawn. Use a tool like Entity's BSP viewer and you can move the box so you can spawn.
