Hello, I've just started trying to mod Halo 2 on the 360. So far, I have been completley unable to ftp my computer to my xbox. I'm using SmartFTP, and every time I attempt to connect to my xbox, I get this message in the log:
[15:40:40] SmartFTP v2.5.1005.22
[15:40:40] Resolving host name "192.168.2.5"
[15:40:40] Connecting to 192.168.2.5 Port: 21
[15:40:40] Connected to 192.168.2.5.
[15:41:01] An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine.
[15:41:01] Server closed connection
[15:41:01] Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)...
I have tried disabling firewalls, mcafee antivirus, but nothing seems to be working. Is there another program I can use to connect/and or another method to connect my PC to my computer? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Help Ftping my computer to my Xbox
Yea there is another program you could use and I recommend it. It's called FlashFXP. Get it at http://www.download.com

Youd don't actually need an ftp program to connect to your xbox. http://forums.halomods.com/viewtopic.php?t=57981
The tutorial tells you everything you need to do. If you have a little trouble just look thorugh that thopics replys and that should hopefully answer your question.

Strange. I just tried your method zach and I came up with this error upon entering the ip in windows explorer (ftp://192.168.2.5/).
FTP Folder Error
"Windows cannot access this folder. Make sure you typed the file name correctly and that you have permission to access the folder.
Details: The connection with the server was reset"
This leads me to believe that it probably isn't the smartFTP program after all...might it have anything to do with my 360's network settings? I have no password or username--atleast, it says so on the network settings. When I try to change that to xbox:xbox I am unable to connect to my wireless network. Any suggestions as to what I should do now?
EDIT: Would changing my xbox's ip help? Last time I did that, I had to go through a ton of trouble to restore connection to my other computer (as my xbox had taken the ip of my labtop when I set it to automatic)

You cannot ftp to your 360. I highly doubt you have an ftp server running on your 360 if you need to ask questions about connecting to it here. That's not an insult btw, it's not something many people can accomplish at the moment.I've just started trying to mod Halo 2 on the 360

If you see people running halo 2 mods on the 360, they've likely injected maps into a properly constructed iso. Which is a process I doubt we cannot discuss here due to the fact that it is [or was] one of the methods being used for live modding.
Well that explains alot : ). I suppose I can borrow my buddy's Xbox.h4xx3d wrote:

Off topic, If I could ftp to my friends Xbox and mod around a bit, could I then take the disc, put it into my 360 and have those mods still work?
Thanks for the help so far

In all likelihood, no. The easiest way to play halo 2 mods on the original xbox is to copy the game to the harddrive, make another copy of the map you would like to alter on your pc via ftp. Make any alterations you would like to the map and then ftp it back over to the xbox. You certainly can make custom discs, however it's not advisable if you're just getting into the scene as you will probably end up making a few mistakes and that would mean a lot of wasted time/dvds.
As far as I know, the process in which you burn an iso for use with the 360 is not the same as that for the original xbox, or at least it isn't for an original xbox which does not have a firmware modded drive.
Now, to summarize, no. It won't work
With the release of Halo 2 v1.5, you may be able to create a custom DLC package and place that onto your 360's harddrive in the appropriate location via software located here under harddrive tools.
In order to use these tools, you need to either remove the 360 hard drive from it's case, or purchase an adapter such as this one.
I've yet to test custom DLC on the 360, but plan to shortly. I have finals this week, so I'm short on time.

I thought it was a little out in left field to begin with
But anyway, I did find a helpful tutorial surfing the net for some solution, which deals with buying an XSATA and accessing the Xbox's hardrive via Xplorer360. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/472509 The drive required (XSATA) is a little pricy, but I think I can save up some cash to buy it.
The custom DLC though, seems as a plausible way to get modded content onto the 360 (I suppose that you would upload modded maps onto the hardrive, then download the edited maps onto halo?) Let me know if that works.
P.S.
I'm not sure if that would enable cheating on matchmaking or something akin to that (Don't get me wrong, I have no intention of using mods in matchmaking--given I rarely ever even use it to begin with, being a lowly level 7 ^_^) and if so, I apologize if it's taboo on these forums.
