Help!!

Post by GAMER4EVER »

If I want to load modded maps, make skins, etc, what programs/plugins do I need? (Ex UberBitmapTool, Serenity, Yello, etc...)

I already have Photoshop. (Elements 2.0)

If there is a tut somewhere (and I'm sure there is lol) then I'm sorry. I don't mean to spam! Honest...

There are tons of things you can use!

What specifically do you want to learn to do?

narrow down what you want to do, you are leaving it far to open. browse this forum and you will see almost everything can/has been done. look through the maps in dotHalo for a start.

Well lets go for the basics. For beginner knowledge at modding, I recommend DotHalo. It's an excellent dependency swapper and easy to use for the beginner modder. I is also widely used for skinning.
*At least is was before the release of Entity UIv1.6*

If your lazy an want to transfer tags quickly, then Insolenceis for you.
It can transfer tags quickly but don't rely on it too much. It also has updated plug-ins available. Sometimes it will for get to bring over required tags and forget about sound, it totally f**ks sound tags.

ADI is similar to DotHalo but it also has sound injection.

Entity, the big guy of all modding programs is much easier to use then you may think! The most stable version that I have found from personal experience would be Entity v1.3. Entity can do nearly everything all other programs can do with a little extra. There is WAY to much to say about Entity, you just have to explore it yourself. BTW, the current version of entity is Entity UI v1.6.
*I can't find a download for 1.6*

Super PPF(ppf-o-matic) is a patcher to create and apply patches for mods. Its a must need.

Serenity, this is the elite of patchers. It's just as needed like SPPF if not more but has a few extra fetures but still functions pretty much the same. You can create patches but with built in menu images. You can apply a serenity patch and automatically add it to you mainmenu map list at the same time!

And of coarse you'll to install .NET framwork 2.0 for any of these programs to work correctly or at all.

Dothalo will work with just 1.1, i think insolence may too.

U'll also have to remember to resign maps once they have modded for them to work ( dont worry, its just another button click :P )

I'm just looking for programs so that I can

*Make skins
*Turn skins into formats that work with image editors like .bmp or .png
*Apply already-made mods to maps
*Edit maps and do stuff like Containment skytracks, making teleporters and weapon spawns, removing death barriers and walls, etc...
*Give my hog neon and hydraulics
*(possibly)Take screenshots and get 3rd person and all that jazz

Basically stuff to start off with.

If I wanted to have 3 different types of hogs, could I just replace the ghost with a hog and make 3 light vehicle spawns?

>>> Also, sorry, I know this is a already a lot to ask, but is there an easy way to tell if a mod will be system-linkable? And what exactly is DotHalo? A map editor? What's the one that lets me actually see the map and inject models and move them around in 3d?

Thanks! :D

EDIT: I just saw this thing called Prometheus... is it worth a DL?

Ok, so I downloaded DotHalo... is this the type of thing that lets you swap the Banshee's model with a Phantom, and make it an extra slow Banshee with no tricks, and have the SMGs shoot out coconuts?

Also, can it make Elites spawn as flood-infected elites and stuff like that?

To mod the maps go download a program called Entity.
To apply already made mods you will need to download either Serenity, SPPF, or PPF, depending on the format of the patch.
To get the screenshots and and "all that jazz," download something called Yelo.
All of the above can be found in the utilities board for Halo 2.
To tell if a mod is SLC, open it in Entity and click the Fix System Link button under the Tools option, or that's how it was, haven't used an updated Entity yet. If no errors pop up, it should be SLC.
Yes, Dothalo is a map editor, but I recommend Entity.
Prometheus has yet to be released so you can't download it yet.

To answer your newest post, yes Dothalo can most if not all of those. I haven't used Dothalo in awhile so I don't remember if it has the ability to do those things, but I believe it does.
