I hate to say this but my original code was a bit glitchy.
I am not sure how much of it was utilized in this app.
I believe you can do it this way
1. If you want to edit a existing bumpmap extract it in a8r8g8b8.
2. convert it to a heightmap.
3. Then edit it and convert it back to a normal map with mipmapping using the Nvidia plugin.
4 Then inject
