Patch_v3 Question

Post by [users]Digital Marine »

Okay, I have a quick question about the patch_v3.lvl. I figured out how to edit everything and resign and blah blah by myself over the past two days. But, the problem I have is that I can't get any of the maps to load.

My tests:
1. I downloaded Moon Stronghold from Mimesis.
I changed the map value and next value to match that of Warlock.
I resigned everything, copied to Xbox.
I loaded up Split Screen and found the map there.
I tried to load the map, it just went back to the lobby.

2. I split the Containment and Warlock patches.
I put the Containment scenario into Warlocks new patch_v3.
Kept everything else the same, then fixed the signatures.
Loaded the game, went to Split Screen.
I saw "Warlock", but no Containment (as planned).
I put the map to Warlock, launched it. Found Containment (as planned).

3. Took the new Containment patch.
Put the Moon Stronghold scenario in place of Containments.
Kept everything else the same, resigned.
Copied to Xbox. Saw the map name of Containment.
Tried to load it, it went back to the lobby.

So, why wont the maps load if I change the scenario paths? I have changed Warlock's name to "Warl0ck" on the menu, and it loaded. Are the scenario's hard coded in the v1.1 patch I have? Do I need to switch to the older 1.1 or whatever that allows the Mimesis maps??

I see, ill have to try this when I get home! So why did AntMan, or whatever his name was, get so paranoid when I questioned the patch_v3 file? I asked him what if I was to put an old maps scenario in place of the download content one. He then flipped out and said “see, I knew you were cheating” and blocked me on AIM.

All I’m doing is trying to learn exactly what this file is for, and how to work it. This is what I know of it:

1. Holds the scenario for each map it contains
2. Has the Encryption Signature
3. Map Value / Next Value
4. Name in nine different languages
5. Description in nine different languages
6. Preview image
7. The latest XBL patch blocks scenario paths from being modded (questionable)

So, why doesn’t anybody release a program for this? I don’t really understand what’s so secret about this one file?

The Autoupdate reads these files as additional map slots to the mainmenu. The file contains more than what you listed, it has a Scenario Path (9), Required Map Signature, Map start/end Indecies(determines what order the maps are dispalyed), ascii start/end indecies, description (9), a team setting, and image raw for the preview bitmap. You will not be able to make a patch work, unless you figure out how to resign it (Only Anthony and the Mimesis people know), then build a content package with XDK or XLAST...

There is no reason to add maps to your mainmenu this way, just use a mainmenu editor, and add them to your mainmenu. Programs have been made, but not publically released because you can use it to play "New" maps over XBL.

Hrm, I knew most of that was in there. Monkey, are you going to be on AIM tonight? I think I may need to drop you an IM. Also, they're not the only ones that know how to sign! I think I figured it out last night when I was about to give up. :)

Plus, you don't have to inform me about contentmeta's. I figured out how to mod those while trying to mod Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow on Xbox Live. I know the file up and down ;)

And say good bye to Halomods.

And who said I'm releasing the information of how to resign and stuff to everyone?

I knew somebody wouldn't believe me that I think I figured out how to sign the files. Honestly, think what you want. People don't believe me a lot of the time, but I do tell the truth. (I remember when nobody believed me when I said I could sign contentmeta's too...heh)

But why would I say "bye to HaloMods"?? It's a cool site, I wouldn't want to do anything to shut it down. I also don't think I'm doing anything against the rules to get banned, so I don't know what you mean by that?

Use to mod on Rainbow Six 3: Black Arrow. After some guy released mods I stopped playing the game. Xbox Live has nothing to worry from me. I really just want to see if I can get this file working since it seems only Mimesis is the only people to get it working.

I don't even care if I get it working for Xbox Live, just want to be one of the few people that can get a patch_v3 working!

It's already been done and not just by the Mimesis team.

And I would like to join those few who have got it working! I want to go home to keep trying. You're urging me now...heh.

Okay, I have figured it out.

Shade45 is correct, you must use the older patch. That is because the newer patch that is used for Xbox Live today checks your maps. What they do is hard code the maps paths so they only load in specific folders:

00000001 -> Containment and Warlock
00000002 -> Turf and Sanctuary
00000003 -> Relic, Terminal, Relic, Backwash, and Gemini

Anything else that doesn't follow those will not load the map. That is why I kept getting returned to the lobby. The older patch though does not do checks like that. Thus, I loaded "Moon Stronghold" on my Xbox with the older patch.

So, pretty much there is no use of the patch_v3 unless you use the older patch. You cannot even rename a folder to "500124567" without it failing.

Also, Monkey, my method is correct for the patch_v3. I think you lied when you said you could get maps on Xbox Live, because the only way I see that is if you mod the default.xbe of the update, which would include you signing the file with RSA2048...unlikely.

Anthony, you're just an ass when it comes to patch_v3!
