Kirk wrote:Yes I agree with Scotty... If you consider the MC a human, you'd have to use in-human powers to holster the weapon that quickly. The gun is in one frame, the next frame it is gone. The movie is running at ~30FPS. That means, in 1/30th of a second the MC holstered the gun. No, I think it was a mistake.
I don't think it's a mistake.. You can hear the MC holster the Pistol.
You don't see him holster it although it's easy to see when he does it from the Quicktime low-res version:
That's the frame right after he holsters it.
Then in the WMP HD version it's more obvious, as he looks down as he does it:
We're talking about the bubble shield. When he first throws the grenade down (~42 seconds into movie) his left hand is holding a pistol. The shield turns on. The camera changes, and INSTANTLY the gun is gone (~43 seconds). It can't be a different time.. the mortar is about to hit in the first camera angle, you can see it.
His hand still is in the "lol im holdin a gun" position, and it's a split second after he was holding it, so it's pretty clear that it just disappeared.
are you guys watching the same commercial i am? i see the gun the entire time hes in the shield and even after. when his left hand goes back, its just the camera angle in relation to it makes it hard to see.
I do not mod halo, so please do not send me Instant Messages asking how.

Whoop, my mistake!
Your right though, clearly disappears then re-appears :/.

The camera angles are almost exactly the same. The second on is slightly futher back and to the right. The gun is extremely obvious in the first angle. The second angle being very close to the first makes what you said very unlikely. I'll watch it a few more times at my house when I get home to confirm this...
ScottyGEE, I was debating whether it disappeared instantly, not how he threw it. Which is odd in itself.
And yes, the pistol just kinda "slides in" to his holster. Obviously everything won't be animated fully, but it's very darn close. Also, you can hear the click of him holstering it. It's just a shortcut to animate faster, methinks, on Bungie's part. Nothing as big as the Moongoose -> Hog.

seriously, i think we're watching different movies. the hog doesnt change to a mongoose, if you look they're both there its just the camera rotation makes takes one out of sight. the pistol is holstered as he is running, its very clear when he does it because it is right before he takes out the ar.

thats the one im watching. you gotta turn up the sound to hear it though. i dont know how we would all be watching different versions though...
If you noted my comparison, it's plainly obvious that it changes. In the first shot of our morphing vehicle, it has a tow winch on the front bumper area. The second shot CLEARLY doesn't, and it CLEARLY isn't taken from the completely other side, which would be an explanation. It's a Mighty Morphin' Power Mongoose, plain and simple.

I just saw a QT hires version, and the pistol doesn't disappear, it gets magnetically attached to his armor like the assault rifle. It just happens so fast because he's not doing anything, just running and the armor sucks the pistol to itself. If you listen hard, you can hear a magnetic *click* as the pistol attaches to the armor. Also, that's not the Halo 1 pistol. It's close, but the grip is different.

no, the warthog is behind him when he looks over at the gun. then he has to walk to it, putting distance between him and it so its not int he cameras fov. and the mongoose is infront of him.

If you really take a good look, its blatantly obvious that he holsters the pistol while he's running. He's sprinting with it, and his arms are moving back and forth. I can plainly see the MC move his arm back, magnetically attach the pistol to his thigh, then reach back with his other arm to grab the AR. I see no error. And as for the part where the pistol "disappears" while he's in the shield, take into consideration that the shield warps light, which means its more than possible that the way the camera angle was, the light may have been bent to where the pistol seemingly wasnt there.

That's almost exactly what I said! Can't you read? (any percieved flaming is unintentional.)

Wrong part of the video, champ. It's the part after he deploys the shield, a split second before the wraith's round strikes the ground near him. During that scene, you'll notice that he's in the same position, but the gun is missing from his still-gripped hand, then after the shield goes down, he has it in his hand again.
