New gun model: Viper {update!!!}

Post by llamaboy772 »

Wow, it's was a lot harder to model a gun then I thought it would be, but I'm happy with the results. This is my first gun model ever!!! The face count turned out to be about 1,500 more then I wanted, but I should be able to get it in-game without much lag if I slap some good LOD's to knock it down about a 1,000 faces. The face count(not poly count) is 3,948 for the total gun, and the seperate parts are as follows...

gun - 2,352

barrel - 144

top of gun - 922

site nubs - 64

pull back thingy - 88

trigger - 252

magazine - 124

If for some reason you think I ripped this model(kirby thought so) I can prove I made it. Mostly by the poly wasteage and improperly applied smoothing groups. I didn't have time today to skin it so I whipped up some clay renders. I plan on tagging this, animating, and getting it in-game.(with LOD's of course!) It may not look like much without a texture, but with the 2,048 x 2,048 bitmap i'm going to skin it with, it looks awesome! Can everybody please stop getting on me about my modeling skills and tiny-ass now? (by tiny-ass I meen the modeling of it) I'll get some renders with skins on Monday.

Big thanks to snaf, he may not of helped me with my modeling but he posted a link to some killer plane modeling tutorials! (PS, I forgot to model the bullet!!) :twisted:

Good job for a first man. Now you must do the obligatory M4 model. :P

you know what? i don't think there's a modeler that hasn't attempted an m4 lol, well i dunno if katarn's done one..or snaf..but for the most part.

basically what i said at gbx, poly count is to high for somethin with not so much detail, and the hammer should be a separate piece since it's a moving part

Oh, well that is actually a separate mesh by it doesn't look important enough to go through the hassle of animating with it.

thats the most important part of a beretta, thats how the gun fires... if the hammer is not back it will not shoot. the animations will be weird with it staying up. just detach it and make a hole where it is.

Lol your first model is better than my current models. Great for a first. BTW I can inject this into halo pc.. but you're probably looking foward for it to be in ce or halo 2.

Ok, I think now i'm ready for animation! Now I applied the textures like a retarded chimp but I think they look pretty good. (since i'm a beginner and all)
