he wants to change it because it say it in the readme....
Quick guide how to edit the Halo 2 .xbe file so it does not boot the Autoupdate, which is highly recommended when using this mappack!!!, not necessary
1. Open the Halo 2 default.XBE up in a hex editor
2. Search for offset 0x40D2CC (DEC=4248268)
and make sure you've selected the 'beginning of file' option when going to the offsets. Click search or w/e.
3. In the text part of the hexeditor You will see t:\$u\ , just change that letter to random letter for example T:\$w\.
Don't get scared if you still get the update-error message when booting halo 2..
You'll still be able to play your downloaded content!!!

If you read the readme.txt and are still having trouble, chances are you are in the same boat that I was in. I knew nothing of hexidecimal or offsets or any of that. Here is step by step what I did to disable the autoupdate (I used XVI32).
1) Open XVI32.
2) Click File > Open, then navigate to your default.xbe and open it.
3) Click on Address > Go To... A box will pop up.
4) Make sure decimal is checked, then in the input field, plug in the DEC number from the readme.txt file (4248268) and hit OK.
5) Now you should see the string that the readme.txt file talks about (t:\$u\). Just change the u to a random letter like the readme file says, save, and close.
You have just disabled the autoupdate.
Hope this is what you were looking for.
