FTP
FTP
For some reason after I disabled my softmod through my game exploit to set up a new xbox live account and then when I reenabled it, I was no longer able to FTP my xbox. My modded dash works fine and I checked all of my FTP settings on my xbox regarding my password and such but I keep getting the error 530 about my username and password?

Default username and password are xbox. Make sure thats what your settings say. If it still doesnt work try reinstalling your dash.

yup, believe it or not, ur evox ftp is still active, it just isnt as fast as the installers filemanager. so with that in mind, try to ftp when ur evox official dash is up. "play disk from.." screen. it may take about 30-45 seconds to connect but it will eventually. config ur router to block ur xbox from using WAN (4 now, you'll redo to play Live) forward ports to if ya gotta or put ur X in a demilitarized zone in ur router config. but if ur running evox, ftp IS active in the main menu. port 21. then if U dont like it, get another ftp and install it on ur X, then "launch app"
deep breath.. Please, repeat after me: I am Sofa King We Todd Did. There, feel better?

If you wanna go XBL the new dash's know that you cant have a modded xbox when You register ur account, or they will know ur a modder because ur xbox hdd isnt locked the way it should be. so you should get ur xbl gamer tag NOW while ur box isnt modded.
~then~
if you still have the softmod installer on ur xbox hdd, or better yet have action replay, or modded usb/ xboxmemcard, then I would get SID auto installer V4, run splintercell, and reinstall ur dash right away!! SID comes with an XBL option, without losing your connectability.
first thing is being able to get into ur X, I wondered the same thing, actually it almost ruined my day because i thought i was locked out, untill i forgot to close the ftp connection once (went for refill) and low and behold after like 2 minutes it connected, now my speeds are cut by one third too. I tried "boxplorer" and on the main X menu you see "launch application"? thats where i put my default.xbe file (for the file manager) so it would be E:\apps\whatever or F:\ apps\whatever. but boxplorer didnt come close to the performance of the SID auto installer's file manager. yeah sorry you have no choice but to get ur evox connected before you can do anything!! it's active though I can assure you, if U can reach the main menu. (@ the main menu when the box turns on)

Xbox LIVE does not ban on seeing an unlocked HDD.
It marries the EEPROM and HDD serial. If one's a low down dirty cheater, then the hammer drops.
Also, putting your Xbox on a DMZ zone is totally not necessary.
Why would a router block port 21 by default? That makes no sense.
If you want to FTP to your Xbox via XBMC, just edit your config file to DHCP, save, restart, and then connect from your PC to your Xbox.
Most of the time that will fix your problem. If it doesn't, lemme know, tell me the error, and I will see what's affecting you.

port 21 being blocked wasnt my concern, Finding the Xbox was. If you have experienced this problem it doesnt want to connect hardly to begin with, a sure fire direct path...(aka trigger port??) what better way to know that ur pc can find ur xbox than a port forward? you know that "firewall" thing in the router that lets you designate LAN to LAN DIRECT connections? especially if there are other pc's on the network. Hence the "static" concept. DHCP renews the IP every other day or so, so why would'nt you want fixed IP's "static" to manually show the pc where the xbox is 24/7, instead of potential packet Loss from it finding the right machine? static IP know's EXACTLY where to go, every time, rest assured.
Um... I didnt realize that was ketchup who posted that last comment before I replied. ketchup makes excellent tutorials and definitely know's his.... He's right about the demilitarized zone not needed. I think I'm braindead from being stumped on the same problem for a long time. I'm sure he is all to familiar with the pro's and cons of dhcp Vs. static as well, but if anyone else learned the difference between the two, then mentioning it wasnt a total loss.
Now, getting him to help ME is another story. lol. I have been stumped on something ALL BLOODY Weekend. @#$65fhj%$^ <---sorry that was just me smashing my head against the keyboard.

I'm glad he got this resolved as well.. when it happened to me I was on static and for some reason I couldnt edit the xbox network settings or ftp to edit the .ini file, when i edited through xbl troubleshooter, they would return to default when I rebooted X to apply settings. so I just added my network to the X instead of X to the network. i imagine if it was on dhcp it would've been a cake walk LOL (not that it wasnt anyway)
