Hi, I just started map making using HEK and I've gotten my map loaded in sapien and can move around in it, but the map is black solid black aside from the floor.
I checked all the .bitmap's created when i ran the tool bitmap (etc..) command and in Guerilla they all show up black. When I created the textures I used photoshop, and have them at a pixel res of 32x32 and saved them as non-compressed .tif files.
Odd thing is though, for some reason now 1 of my bitmaps is showing up, I have a bitmap of a rough floor like concrete and it appears to be the only one not solid black.
Any help appreciated.
One more thing, i placed player start locations in my map with plenty of room around them, but when I'd load my map (just to see if it would load) it just sits there saying "waiting for room to clear".
All my bitmaps are black

hrm. k,
1. In 3dsmax do I apply the +sky to my level somewhere even though it won't have a sky or just create a material called +sky and not apply it in my level then export the map to JMS.
2. Do I run "tool structures" before i run "tool bitmaps"? If I have just .tif files located under testmap\bitmaps and no level there and run "tool bitmaps" on it, would it need a JMS map there? i guess what im asking is, does it need a senerio file before i run bitmaps? Cuz I don't understand needing this just to create bitmaps
. It's weird cuz all but 1 of my bitmaps are solid black. The floor is a shade of rough grey and it works even when I don't have a map file anywhere. Here's something I did to test a theory.
I copied all my bitmaps I'm using to data\levels\testmap\bitmaps\
I ran tool bitmaps levels\testmap\bitmaps it created the files. In Guerilla, I checked and all of them are still solid black except my roughfloor.bitmap. I'm new to all this and followed the tutorials as best as I could. The only thing I did different was create my own textures
.
3. Reading up on my problem I see a lot of users saying "save radiosity" but I don't ever see someone say "click here to save it, or run this to save it" radiosity is that lightmaps tool thing right? I guess my noob question is, how do I save radiosity?
4. When I started using 3dsmax to create my map, and would export it to JMS and run the structures tool command on it, it first of course came out with open edge errors. I followed the tutorial for fixing these by importing the wrl file, but it killed all the default max lighting for the level, how do i restore the default lighting for the map in 3dsmax?
Sorry for all the questions, but I can't find a tutorial or board discussions to answer them
. I have got my map into halo and ran it and played around it in, but its just a dark black textured (sept the floor) void. Does 3dsmax's lighting have anything to do with the halo map lighting?

K solved one problem, didn't need +sky, turns out the map that I'm creating, I'm using some textures from a previous map I made in Unreal Tournament and those textures are index 256 colors and not RGB, so I just didn't change them to RGB when saving to tif. heh
But my level is still dark, and for some reason I can't place objects in my map using sapien. The only thing I can add is player start points. I think my sapien is broken. I maximized the game view window and when i closed and opened it back up it was still maximized and gave me no option to minimize down. Same thing happened to my Hierarchy window, maximized it and closed sapien, opened sapien back up and its maximized with no way of minimizing. And my properties palette is just an empty window...

Well, solving one's own problems is best I guess. Managed to get light into my level, used the wall texture bitmap I have and looked at some of bloodgulches shaders and set my shader some radiosity. When trying the: type radiosity_quality using the prompt in sapien it just made it worse, however I answered that question too, didn't know radiosity was a command in the prompt for halo. Guess that's what I get for not reading.
Still though the last problem is this, sapien for some reason, won't let me place anything other than player start points in my map
. And 2 of the windows seem to be fixed maximized and there's no way to minimize them, it's as if they are docked as part of the whole thing. I have to uncheck them to hide them to do other things. It's a pain
. Anyone else ever had this problem? Uninstalling and reinstalling didn't fix it, nore did deleting it's config file
.
I'd like to know something, if I create a map in 3dsmax export it to JMS, run "tool structure" on it, set everything using Guerilla, (multiplayer, startting equiptment etc... Go into sapien set stuf up. If I change 1 thing in the map on 3dsmax and export and run "tool structure" again, do I have to delete the senerio file created before and replace stuff everytime I change one thing?

So let me get this straight, I post about bitmap trouble, and solve my problem. I post about more information about something else asking questions. And one more time for updated reasons so that it may help others who have had the same problem. And all you can do is reply to this topic "which I started" saying tripple posting is illegal? Looks like someone must of been bored as hell and needed to post 1 tiny reply that has nothing to do with the topic at hand. As for tripple posting, I don't think it's illegal because this is a board/forum in which you are welcomed to post and chat about such things and you can't go to jail/prison for posting 3 times. You must be one of those posters that try to cause problems.funkadelik_bob wrote:i think triple posts r illegal...................<like that spam
