Halo Wars
I don't think anyone realises that just because those models are ingame, does NOT mean they will look that good ingame... models are models, it's the textures and various 'map's and effects applied to the models that define how good the graphics are... so saying they are ingame models means nothing... IMO at least...
I've been thinking about it, and I have come to the conclusion I think this is a bad idea, a Halo game, NOT being developed by Bungie... it's gonna ruin the franchise if anything, and what's to be made of this other unkown project involving Peter Jackson?
I hope the movie looks somewhere near the quality, preferably better, to that of the CG video for HaloWars, I think Bungie need to look at Ensembles Trailer, and use it for "ideas" on how to improve Halo 3. Mainly what makes it look so awesome is the scale, the actual battles, rather then slaughtering the odd pocket of enemies, we want large scale battles, that are epic, in vast landscapes with amazing effects, as well as the usual Halo stuff we all love, like fighting in ships and corridors and stuff.
Anyways, Im bored of typing, now to post and spot the errors that I cannot edit.

My favorite set in the future rts is Total Annihilation, my favorite rts set before guns came to the scene has to be Rome: Total War.
That being said, I hate AOE (at least the first two), they just don't seem....realistic to me....so I hope halo wars isn't anything like them......

I liked Yuri's revenge on many fronts...But I think it also unbalanced the game...I think RA2 was probably the last great RTS, before it became infected with the "things need to look shiney and need 7GB of ram on your video card" ideals that have plagued the FPS genre for years...RTS's strong selling point was always that it was about the game, not the graphics, and most older RTS's would run on a quarter the specs the FPS's were running on...
I think the Wii, with it's "we added fun to our console instead of CPU's" could pull off a decent RTS...And the Wiimote could definately substitute a mouse...With some clever controls, it could change the way RTS's are play'd the way Halo redifined the FPS genre away from requiring a keyboard...
And I think you're all missing the point about the video...It doesn't matter if it's ingame models, or even pre-rendered...Not one shot from the video is comparable to what an RTS looks like...At most, it could be a cutscene from the game...And at that point, it could be from any genre of halo related game...So there's not much to be excited about...And Bungie probably shouldn't make the game...Halo is a decent franchise...They came up with it...That doesn't make them qualified to make a good RTS...

however i dont think halo wars will be only on console. maybe firstly but later they will relize that they gotta make it for pc.
the trailer was really amazing.
im looking forward for the first gameplay trailer.
Ensemble is a pretty good developer... and I trust they will make at least a decent game out of this. My only problem with it is its 360-only approach... I've played BFMEII on the 360 and PC.. and I liked the PC version a lot more. I guess since they're developing it for the 360 from the ground up, they'll have a lot more freedom with control design... PC to console ports suck because they have to substitute the keyboard with the controller and that only works to a certain extent.
A PC port would be in Ensemble's best interest... since thats where their previous success lies.

Every single command and conquer game (aside from Yuri's revenge IMO) is absolutley fantastic
Total annialition was good until my disk was destroyed but C&C>all...
Iron_Forge once again makes fabulous points...I'm still going to buy halowars, especially since its an RTS and part halo too...However I've been waiting for Halogen for so long, it looked incredible, such a loss... But I agree that it was quite low of them to say stop it only when they didnt want a halo RTS on another platform and to possibly take away from their own 360 sales... (Possibly, IMO)
Having it pre halo1 seems a little confusing, from reading the book "the fall of reach" which I can only assume they are working off, does not have all too much covenant fighting...Like just them defending the planet, trying to stop it, and then the ships final fight and then the jump to halo...Perhaps something other planet wise. But it looks good. The spartan's look like CMT's ;P

Personally I'm always in a game for the way it plays. Of course, if it has pretty graphics then hurray even more. The thing you should be more interested in is the way the game plays not so much how it looks. It seems they want to have a different take on the way halo is seen. I think this game will be fun because i've always been interested in rts games and have fun with them. Now, since it's got halo applied to it, it only sparks more interest for me. Not saying it will be a wonderful game but the fact that its a rts interests me more than how it looks.

My main question is modability. Do you think we at halomods will be modding when it eventually arrives, I think, like all RTS games it will have great potential for good mods. Mainly I hope they don't include one of those crappy 'Scenario Editors' like in AOE. That would ruin it, also I hope they don't have the ability to cheat like in previous games on this one. Easter eggs fine, but to me whoever types 'Blackdeath' the fastest should not be the winner.
