Besides. There reason he looks that good is mainly because of parallax mapping. Which is bump mapping on steroids. HDR and Reflections are all part of the engine; they come standard.
He will definitely look like that in-game. Now, what you should be asking is how the marines faces will look like. You won't see yourself because it is a FPS. I just can't wait to see the look on their faces.

Well in a sence Bungie could use the same exact engine with some modifications. Im a 3D graphics desiginer about to graduate from Virginia College in Huntsville. All they really have to do is use detailed bump mapping and something called Raytracer, it has some special algroithims for lighting and refelectivity, rendering is a bum tho. If you thaught H2 was bad at loading stuff, H3 will be worse unless they "bake" their materials. and only baking can be done if the light source dosent move. Anywho, Max and Maya have joined forces, combining their technology....
Kill the BoX, REnder HAIR!!!!, yea I dont think hair will be true real time renderable for a while with the lighting and detail Bungie is putting into H3.

Brutes, mostly hair, but its not tru hair. It can be faked thru materials. Pixar's movies have real hair, but since its a movie, they can have all the render time they want. Bungie will prolly have to fake the hair on the brutes again, unless there is something i dont know, some algorithim that makes real time hair render possible with the 360. Every game has a new race, so expect at least one in H3.

Heh I get 100% of the crap you just said. I like light maps, which were used in halo two, because you don't see the light load and its never grainy (BF:2 MC would be a good example of crappy raytracing). I think, if this is possible, in h3, to use a combination of light mapping and real time rytracing. Use the light map for distant things and real time tracing for closer up things, that way you get the awesomeness of uber shadows without the no shadows from far away thing.Flying Poo wrote:Well in a sence Bungie could use the same exact engine with some modifications. Flying poo, for one thing, halo 3 does not use bump mapping, it uses parallax mapping. Somebody who is about to graduate college should be able to spell "since" and "thought." Another thing is that halo 2 was built to run on the Xbox 1's outdated graphics card/processor. The Xbox 360 is fully capable of rendering all those hd effects, there isn't a tri-core processor in that thing for nothing
. By the way, halo 2 used a bump map to normal map renderer which is pretty much like the Photoshop plugin made by Nvidia, except in real-time. It recomputed the normal map based on the lighting situations. (Pretty much re-baking the normal maps on a regular basis.) This is what caused what Bungie called "popping." (This problem has already been resolved with Halo 2 Vista.)
To your comment about the "new character in every game," you couldn't be more wrong. Yes it may be the trend for many new additions to game series to have new characters, but this doesn't apply to all games.
To be honest your comment about 3DS Max and Maya is absurd. Yes, the two programs are now owned by the same company, but they still are two completely different software packages. With Maya 8 there are several changes to the user interface that could be seen as influenced by 3DS Max. It would be nice to see smoother cross-program compatibility without a third-party application like Polytrans or Deep Exploration, but for now I'd just use the .FBX format.
You say that you are going to graduate as a 3d graphics designer, well obviously you need to take a course on game design.
You just got told by a 15 year old. Good day.

1. By queer he could easily have meant gay or strange.Reaper Man wrote:First thing's first, I'll be the one to be judging my heterosexuality, not some prepubescent. Two, there is nothing wrong with homosexuals, they may have different sexual preferences, but you can't judge people by that, they do everything that heterosexuals do, except having sexual relationships with the opposite gender. You may be a homophobe, but homosexuality exists. Deal with it.Armed Civilian wrote:You're a Queer! HA!! YOU JUST GOT TOLD!!!!
Bt i think when halo 3 is suppose to come out bungies gonna hire 10 billion Ashton Robots to jump out of halo 3 case and Punk us.
(I've corrected that typo in your post too.)
2. Dont go off topic or flame.
3. All we really know about Halo3 is that it looks fu**ing sweet

Look ya 15 yo, go back to launching your own space shuttle from Hong Kong with your little Scientific Calculator. Here in America we learn by doing it ourselves not devoting our lives from birth. Anywho, there has to be a new some sort of species in H3, did ya see it in the video release. Oh and sorry I havent read up on too much of the 360 technology. I have yet to read up on Parallax mapping. You try typing on a sidekick 3.

I would consider the first 2 sentences of that post as flaming. *reported*Flying Poo wrote:Look ya 15 yo, go back to launching your own space shuttle from Hong Kong with your little Scientific Calculator. I would've thought a college student would show some maturity. Evidently I was mistaken. And nice racism, moron. You do know that's bannable?Flying Poo wrote:Look ya 15 yo, go back to launching your own space shuttle from Hong Kong with your little Scientific Calculator. And no, that doesn't necessarily mean it was a new species. What's to say it wasn't an existing one in different armour? I would've thought a college student would be intelligent enough to crack that one, too.
Told by a 17 year old, too. Also, reported. Have a nice day!

You do relise that i am half American... I haven't "devoted" my life in any way, I have been doing 3d modeling etc for about a year and a half/two years. I only know about the Xbox specs, as a friend of mine is obsessed with computer hardware etc and is always talking about it: "hey, did you know the xbox 360 has a tri-core processor?" And other things along those lines.Flying Poo wrote:Look ya 15 yo, go back to launching your own space shuttle from Hong Kong with your little Scientific Calculator.
