yeah, i posted that here in the cafe not too long ago. interesting stuff.multi-genre wrote: I heard in Japan that they are attempting to make a baby universe, maybe we were made by people like that. Interesting thought.

Intelligent Design isnt an excuse to teach about God in school. Intelligent Design just basically states that life was created somehow with "intelligent design" and nature took its own course (hints evolution). Its a bit of both, it doesnt establish a god or a reason for life, but basically says somehow it was created way before our time and there is no evidence to prove how it all started, but basically nature has evolved over time.

Let's put it this way:
Some force had to have created the universe.
Scientists call it the big bang, but if you want to give it a 3 letter name, go ahead. It was something, even if it was some mystical being that just plain exists, something created the universe. Now beyond that, anything could have sparked life, and if you want to also give that force the same three letter name, go right ahead.

I, personally believe that God did create the Universe and everything in it. I don't believe that it was created in one day though, I believe that it has probably been around for billions of years. I also believe that God manages other universes.
As for evolution, I believe its a bunch of bologna. The single fact that we are symmetrical outside (as in appearance), but not inside (organs and such), makes it look ridiculous. Plus if the top animal survives to have children, it is going to have to be conscious to protect itself, there no animals today should have to sleep if evolution was true. Recently (as in a year ago), a dinosaur was found, but it had skin on it and was not fossilized. That would prove that dinosaurs were not present millions of years ago, but more like thousands. But I can't find a link right now to it.

there is scientific proof that evoloution is present, (i'm not telling you that religion is wrong)a mammoth wrote:I, personally believe that God did create the Universe and everything in it. That was a mammoth found frozen in ice. Ice preserves stuff very well. It was no dinosaur.a mammoth wrote:Recently (as in a year ago), a dinosaur was found, but it had skin on it and was not fossilized. If you look at what scientists have been saying it is that the universe (limited or infinite) has been spreading out, but if they look toward a certain point they can see galaxies gravitating toward a sort of center. Some theories say that a giant black hole will suck everything up at the end of the universe and that is how time runs in to a circle (Big Bang -> Life span of Universe -> black hole).
no actually that is just speculation there are 240 billion galaxies in our visible universe, the universe is so much larger there is so much we have'nt seen and yet they can determine that because there is gravitational pull some where that this spot must be the center? it could be a large "black hole" (which also a speculatory theory) or a million other hypothetical situations no one has bothered to conjur up yet. don't believe everything your told.

Please explain to me why our bilateral symmetry on the outside but not on the inside suggests anything contrary to evolution. Or how one dinosaur found that has been preserved disproves evolution, while thousands of fossils have been found.a mammoth wrote:As for evolution, I believe its a bunch of bologna. And have you ever heard of radiometric dating? It is as accurate a measurement as anything and proves that the Earth has been around for at least 4.9 billion years.
As for your sleeping point, I'm assuming that you mean why do animals sleep when there would be an evolutionary advantage to not having to: News flash, we don't sleep for fun. We have to sleep so that our muscles rest and certain functions in the brain can be carried out.
Counterpoint: Many successful predators are nocturnal? Reason: They evolved to take advantage of the fact that many of their prey are asleep at night and easy targets.

And those tests are relevant to what? If we all did evolve from a single celled which never sleep, why do the multi cellular orgasms have to sleep? It doesn't make any sense, plus where did all this matter come from?

Just saying that we need sleep, thats how its relevant, lol.a mammoth wrote:And those tests are relevant to what? If we all did evolve from a single celled which never sleep, why do the multi cellular orgasms have to sleep? It doesn't make any sense, plus where did all this matter come from?
We dont know exactly why we need to sleep though...
and matter came from the big bang, all the matter was compressed to a point of singularity. or God made it all.
Pick one.

Single celled organisms are extremely simple, they carry out basic functions. Multi-cellular organisms are extremely complex, they are made up of trillions evolutionary cousins to single-celled organisms - cells. I can't imagine you are so modest as to say that you aren't more complex than a single celled organism. Sleep is a function of the brain, which only complex organisms have (and is made up of many complex cells). It makes perfect sense.a mammoth wrote:And those tests are relevant to what? As for your second point, in the words of Sir Isaac Newton: Hypotheses non fingo, I feign no hypotheses. I do not know how matter was created. But I do not let theories of how it came about cloud my judgement about matters for which there is outstanding physical evidence.

Where did the thing that exploded come from (see my logic here?)? Plus how did the rules that govern the universe as we know it come about? I also want to point out that in the '70s, most scientists believed that the earth was going to cool down. The ones that refuted looked like idiots. Well guess what? Now we have nice little global warming. So what does that have to do with this? Right now most scientists believe that evolution is the means of our existence, but they may not be right. And I still don't see why single celled organisms would team up and make something bigger.
Sleeping is an inherent property, if your parents don't have to sleep, you don't. Thats why evolution is false.

I absolutely see your logic there. You can choose to believe that divine creation was responsbile for the creation of the universe. But don't let that belief cloud your judgement of things like evolution.a mammoth wrote:Where did the thing that exploded come from (see my logic here?)? Yes, they are right. Look, skepticism for global warming (while I strongly disagree with it) is understandable. But evolution is totally different. Evolution is universally accepted by scientists, honestly, it is as good as fact. I can guarantee that if the religious folks who happen to make up the majority of the population didn't have a beef with evolution, it would be accepted as an undisputable fact (because it is). Open your eyes. Your comparing this with environmental feuds that having been going on for, what, a few decades? The idea of evolution has been around for over a century and is supported by countless evidence, especially with developments in genetics in the past several decades.a mammoth wrote:I also want to point out that in the '70s, most scientists believed that the earth was going to cool down. This argument is pointless, I can see that your mind is closed. No amount of evidence will pry you from your comforting creation ideas.
I'm not going to bother to ask for any sort of evidence for that sweeping and false statement, because I know you won't present any. This has got to be the most pathetic attempt at clinging onto your beliefs I've seen yet. Seeing you desperately trying to plug the gaping holes in your beliefs would be amusing if it weren't so depressing.a mammoth wrote:Sleeping is an inherent property, if your parents don't have to sleep, you don't. You are insisting that sleep is some trancendent magical function that only the higher creatures of the world are lucky enough to partake in. It's not. Sleep serves biological functions, it evolved as was necessary with increasing complexity of multi-celled organisms.
