i don't know a ton about black holes, but think of it this way: if you are only about 3000 miles from a black hole when it forms, i'm pretty sure your going to be within the event horizon. if light can't escape, imagine the force of gravity within the event horizon capable of that. if your only 3000 miles away, i don't see why it would take more than a nanosecond for you to get sucked into the singularity. seems like a pretty fast and painless death to me.

but, also think of this: what if they do accidentally create a black hole. if passage through it is possible, and it leads to another universe, then did they create that universe? or did they simply make a bridge? what if earth passes through that wormhole, survives, and we all end up in an alternate universe? also, what if they make a black hole, but the event horizon is only a few milliliters? i doubt earth would be in trouble, and if the black hole miraculously doesn't phase out in nanoseconds, and we can run all sorts of tests on it, what do you think we would find out? what would it look like, or sound like?

and since you guys seem so interested in this sort of stuff, i'll grab some more links and post them here.

actually we would probably be fried b4 we were crushed by the gravity
the earths atmosphere would be sucked into the hole at superluminal speeds and would ignite frying us

if there was a black hole on earth, it would act as a vaccume, sucking everything in. we would explode, or be smart and live for 30sec.... then we pop..once our atmosphere is gone, nothing is keeping in oxygen, or gravity, only little pressure we will have is the light from the sun itself.

they should stop the proggression, cause if they make one mistake, they dont know the consequences of what will happen. they get a worm hole up, we wont know where we will go or what will happen, or if it fuses with a dark hole, then we have a telepoting dark hole

doesnt matter if there some of the smartest ppl, there will always be a consequence, whether its, 10min after it happens, or when everyone here is dead...

Not really true.We would die as soon as we see it.The rays it sends out are as fast as the light obviously and wil kill us.

Well boys and girls...

We do not REALLY know if light cannot escape. That theory is based on theoretical science, and has not been proven.

A black hole is also a theory. They are 'proofed' by scientific observation. It is hypothesized that they are the densest objects we can find as of yet, i.e., have the most mass.

Light has no mass.

Therefore, a black hole should not have an impact on light, since it's 'pull' is based on its' mass affecting other things with mass. However, Light can be 'redirected' by charged particles, and this MAY account for the deflection/bending of light.

My opinion? Light is being 'pulled' in at a level of a substance not yet defined OR a component of light that is not known to us yet, such as, it's existence in an another dimension. I believe light is multi-dimensional, i.e. might exist in places or ways we do not known how to detect or measure. It could also meanit is simply lacking sugar, as in Crystal Light. I am confused, and I think I hurt my brain.

Take that, Japanese scientists...

from my limited understanding of light (i'm going to be taking high school physics this year) it can be described as waves of varying lengths as well as a stream of photons. if i'm not mistaken, in the photon sense, it has mass, thus being able to be bent by gravity. thus the "gravity lens" effect when something like a galaxy is directly between an object observers are looking at and the observers themselves.

i knew that much, but i wasn't sure about the particles having mass to be affected by gravity. i'm sorta rusty from summer.

no a black hole cannot suck in light thats a common misconception it sucks up atmosphere and the gases move very fast creating friction and igniting and it looks like the light is being sucked in

Scientific theory is that black holes are so dense that not even light can escape from them, hence the term "black hole". You can't see it because no light is able to escape from its intense gravitational pull. I could go on but I won't, go watch some documentaries on them, they're very interesting.

The reason light cannot escape is because it is so dense that you can be so close to the black hole that something called an 'event horizon' appears.
Think about the Earth, if you got in a spaceship and flew outward at a fast enough speed, you could 'escape' the Earth's gravitational pull (I use the word escape loosely here because technically you are under the influence of every body of mass in the universe). A black hole is so supermassive and dense that there is a point across which you would have to travel faster than the speed of light to escape (which our friend Einstein proved to be impossible). Space time is so warped that not even light can escape. Physics is full of some pretty fascinating stuff.
