I've had power go out whenever I wasn't working.

I generally shut down my computers during a storm, I've learned my lessons. ;)

not even surge protectors can totally protect you. lightning pwns j00. frequent backup to an external terabyte HDD ftw (that's what i wanna do).

i hate it when freshman act like they own the school. they don't, the seniors and a few juniors do, and the freshmen need to learn their place.

Amen. :D

And surge protectors don't stop your computer from being shut down. They only protect surges. The only solution is a UPS. My supervisor was so happy when he got the UPS for the servers, he kept unplugging the servers and laughing, because they didn't shut off. I was mostly just laughing at how silly the whole process was.

So you're just a failure.. ;)

Um, I just save often and have a surge protector (not that that'll do anything other than keep my computer safe {we don't have lightning here}).

With all the heat last week, AirCon Use and power consumption in the area was causing rolling blackouts. My friend and I were in a KW in CSS and Power cut on our Neighborhood and got us Disconnected from the game, and caused us to lose.

Luckily, Power outages happen few and far between, and we dont have to worry about lightning 'till winter Storm season.

We get both frequently. My PSU blew the other week, luckily we had a spare downstairs. PC gets shut off at the first sign of an electrical storm.

that's why i just want to buy a UPS. something to act like a defensive wall between me and the outside world.

I use a notebook, so I don't care about the power going out.
I also just remembered that I'm not even attached to my surge protector!

My power never goes out during storms, the only time it went out was when the electrical company decided to do work on it. Even during a hurricane it didn't go out. 8)

I have my laptop, so I really don't have to worry about it during a storm. When I am on it while it is charging, I have it plugged into a surge protector power strip so nothing can happen to it.

Underground wires mb.

And surge protector power strips do jack all against lightning strikes, My PC runs through TWO of the things and the PSU still got cooked.

Surge protectors can only prevent only one surge, it takes a while for it regain is defenses (in a way). If you got multiple surges, your toast. Though, every situation is different and it does vary.
