Blocking ip addresses

I have a linksys router. If I go to its main page (192.168.1.1, whatever it is called) is there a way to block certain ip addresses?

Like when you go to a web browser and type in 192.168.1.1, if you have a router. On the page that it takes me to, is there a way to block ips.

What do you mean, block IP addresses? I'm not entirely sure what you mean. But yes, I know what you're talking about when you say to go to the router page.

Like you can do in a firewall. Just block certain ips from a router.

You mean block certain IPs from getting in? The router is a hardware firewall and does this automatically. In fact the only way people are getting in is if you configure ports to let them in.

You don't understand. Your router is set up so it will automatically let no one in. You don't need to do anything to it.

OK, i think you might be confusing IP addresses with MAC addresses, and if this is so, it's most likely because you want to set up a MAC address whitelist so that even if someone gets on your wireless network, they won't be able to do jack, all their packets will be dropped by the router.

but if you really do mean block IPs, the you wouldn't need to if you haven't forwarded any ports. if you have forwarded any ports, i'll have to look into this. i most likely have the same model router, so i might be able to look in and see.

but if by block IPs you mean something like blocking websites, than i believe i can help you. i don't remember the exact place of the thing you need to edit, but adding an ip address to the list will tell the router to block all packets going to or coming from that ip address.

It depends if your trying to block them from your entire network or from accessing your computer. If it's the latter, then most computer firewalls you can buy will allow you to disallow certain ips from accessing you. I have mcafee and I usually take a look every few days to see what ips have tried to access my computer. If there is a repeat ip that doesnt belong to a legit website or such I block them and then report them to the hackerwatch site provided. If I were you I'd look into McAfee or Norton or ZoneLabs. All three of them make good solutions.

I've explored my entire Linksys config page and I have found no way to block IP addresses that I can remember.
