i was at this one site were i got a few textures, and instead of a bump map that they give u they give you a surfice soloution. Ill give you the link to it.

Most people seem to just take the original texture and convert it straight into a height map. It usually turns out all right, but it limits your options and the amount of depth you can use. Using my method of layering takes longer and requires a bit more thought, but you get better results.
thanks cant wait to try it when i get home (wednesday) but question

when YOU bump map for your map(s) do you use gimp or was that just for purposes so that everyone could use your tut and not jsut those with ps?

I actually use PS, since someone told where the Offset command for it was located. I'm just more used to the interface and so it's quicker for me. I guess I should edit the tutorial where I say I don't know how to Offset in PS. :wink:

One of my very favorite tools for making textures and their bump maps is Xfader. I find it extremely useful. I've used it just as much as PS in the making of just about every texture found in Facility.

Just a quick update, this is the beta version of the animated lightstreams coming from each window. It'll stay like this in beta form until I finalise the lighting, since the transparency is a major factor and I'll probably change how it looks, so I thought I'd give you a peek while I work on other stuff.

Usually you don't see rays of light coming from a sealed window, looking good though.

Light from outside, streaming through a window into a darkened interior doesn't show up as rays? I've seen it in countless games. And no, there's no lag, it's just a modified version of the waterfall shader and texture.

Ya, but, the window was fully opened probly. As in real church I have never seen rays of light, perfectly the same colour, going through a coloured window.

Nope, I've seen it with closed windows, partially open windows and just open holes. They were games however so realism takes a back seat to graphical splendour. :wink:

And the teleporter is not a window, it's a gateway into another plane. That's not what is actually present outside the building. So the colour of the rays will be whatever I finally make it. As I said, this is just a beta.

Light rays cannot be seen unless they are travelling through a medium such as dust or water. I can imagine it could be rather dusty in there, so it works.

Are there going to be any custom weapons in this map? For oddball, you should change the ball to a bible. :)

Also, try to do something with the master chief model and skin. It seems like you're changing everything else, so maybe a new look would fit in better.

Nevertheless, amazing. :shock: :shock:

I would like it if it was just old school halo content, because, even though custom content is cool, sometimes it takes away from the map. Sometimes it doesn't, especially if it is themed for something. The bible would be cool, but having MC look like a priest....funny idea but I don't think it would work.

as far as custom mc goes maybe just update the texture to make it look better. it is wierd seeing those beautifull bumbmaps with a normal mc.

Maybe, like Tiamat's night and day changer, you could be able to change bipeds (MC <--> Elite) in the pause menu.
