Most people seem to just take the original texture and convert it straight into a height map. It usually turns out all right, but it limits your options and the amount of depth you can use. Using my method of layering takes longer and requires a bit more thought, but you get better results.
when YOU bump map for your map(s) do you use gimp or was that just for purposes so that everyone could use your tut and not jsut those with ps?
One of my very favorite tools for making textures and their bump maps is Xfader. I find it extremely useful. I've used it just as much as PS in the making of just about every texture found in Facility.

Just a quick update, this is the beta version of the animated lightstreams coming from each window. It'll stay like this in beta form until I finalise the lighting, since the transparency is a major factor and I'll probably change how it looks, so I thought I'd give you a peek while I work on other stuff.

Ya, but, the window was fully opened probly. As in real church I have never seen rays of light, perfectly the same colour, going through a coloured window.

Nope, I've seen it with closed windows, partially open windows and just open holes. They were games however so realism takes a back seat to graphical splendour.
And the teleporter is not a window, it's a gateway into another plane. That's not what is actually present outside the building. So the colour of the rays will be whatever I finally make it. As I said, this is just a beta.

I would like it if it was just old school halo content, because, even though custom content is cool, sometimes it takes away from the map. Sometimes it doesn't, especially if it is themed for something. The bible would be cool, but having MC look like a priest....funny idea but I don't think it would work.
