Yep, Japan is a military protectorate of the US, that's why many people in the military are stationed in Japan.

They have defense forces... but they're limited. They even produce their own version of an F16... which happens to be better than ours... :x

The F14 is retired and the F16 will soon be too. They just came out recently with the F23 or 25 or 89 I dont remember the exact name but it surpassed the F16 tremendously.

Also Excal, the reason why I said not to get off topic is because I could tell a discussion about the president could arouse.

Yes. They have both been around since the '60s, and, though the F-16 Tomcat is so kick*ss (I've seen the thing break the sound barrier), it is outdated and is being replaced by something even more kick*ss, the F-22 Raptor. Oh, and you forgot the F/A-18 Hornet, it is also being replaced by the Superhornet.

Now, back on topic. I think that North Korea is a big mess. North Korea and China are both messed up.

I dont know if many of you know much about the first Korean war. China will never support us against NK because they fear an american presence in Asia. China doesnt even have relations with South Korea or Japan because they have close ties to us. So military action in NK would never be an option because China will support the NK, just as they did in the Korean war. China sent 500,000 mean to support the NK infranty during the korean war. The only reason why that war was a stalemate is because the Chinese made the same mistake we did and got impatient and it costs them hundreds of men. If China would have played their cards right, there would only be one Korea today. Our government knows this (despite what you think of the president), and the only way we can get the countries around NK on our side is for them to handle it themselves. We can not do anything because Russia and China will be against us. Yes, as much as people think Russia would be neutral or in our favor, its unlikey because they make their money on selling their military supplies to other countries. Most of the asian and middle east countries have made military deals with Russia. (NK, Vietname, Iran, Iraq, etc.)

You wanna know why we dont let them have an army? Do you know why we dropped to atom bombs on Japan? Because fighting Japan would have been a massive loss for the US. Truman knew this because of our troop casualties at the time. After witnessing the capablities of Japan, we realized that all the other Asian countries could possibly do the same thing. After WWII, the cold war drastically changed our government and we realized that if Japan were to fall under communist control our hopes for a non-communist Asia would be lost. So, we take away their ability to overthrow our authority. If Japan, NK, Vietname, and China would have united under one communist regime, they could have done very very bad things. Its not trying to keep down the world, its keeping us alive today as a country. Wow, what a long post.

Chances of Japan going Commie seem pretty damn low to me.

Also, the F-16 is the Falcon, the F-14 is the Tomcat... sheesh.

Anyways... Of course Russia sell shit to all those countries. Wanna know something else? The US trained and equipped bin Laden and his cronies during the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. They supplied equipment to the Iraqis, and then ended up at war with them. By your logic, Britain could be fighting alongside the Communists... Which is utter bullshit.

Be nice Rossmum

Japan will surely never go communist. with one of the strongest economies in the world, giving that to the control of the government is absolutly wrong.

I wasn't flaming, it just annoys me when people mix things like that up. And I tend to swear a fair bit, so it always gets filtered. Dammit, that's like, half my decriptions, GONE.

Besides, d*** and s*** aren't really considered swearing here. Then again, neither is crap, b*tard, a**... (filtered myself, so the mods don't eat me, lozl)

Yall mis-understood me. I wasnt saying that Japan will go communist, which I never thought it would. What I was saying is that right after WWII and the Cold War started, we feared Japan becoming communist. Which is why we dispanded their army. We feared Japan becoming another possible enemy considering their population and their capabilities during WWII. (which is what exactly happened to NK, NK became a very very powerful enemy) I apologize for not being clear enough in my last post, I went back and re-read what I posted and I realized some people might get confused/I didnt exactly get my point across.

You missed my point. Dont get me started on our issues with the middle east. I know everything you just said x10. Also, to be taken seriously you shouldnt have a **** in every sentence.

the us has a nuclear defense shield, that could handle only a few missiles. but it could have been better if clinton had more support for it.

Not my fault if the word filter picks "d*mn" out as swearing, because like I said, it's barely even considered rude here.

And I fail to see how I missed the point, your point was that they'd be backed by Russia and China so how could we consider them allies. I made the point that the US has also backed countries they probably shouldn't have, so you can't single out Russia as an example.

Yeah well, to be taken seriously, you probably shouldn't be saying 'I know what you know times 10!' You sound like a four year old, times infinity plus one!

amazingly WRONG...

Japan's Army was disbanded after world War II almost right after the war ended so they dont fight the Americans there for Bombing the hell out of them During rebuilding. American troops there still had animosity with the Japanese for Pearl Harbor, and Japanese had the same issue with the Americans fro Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Same stuff they did to Germany after World War I. North Korea Is a Facade. They try to make nukes for decades, and haven't succeded, but Iran Just Announced it, and are closer than North Korea. North Korea Is a Poverty Stricken Country, one of the poorest in Asia. All of the Rallies you see on the news are strictly for propaganda.

Yeah... and only infantry... =x

If they want to start a fight, they might want to have a few planes and tanks before they fire some missiles...

They're led by an insane guy with bad hair who's still living in the 50s. Somehow, I don't think that occurred to them.

They have on several occasions set up completely fake towns made out of wood and painted on, near the borders to make it seem as though they are more prosperous than they really are. However you cannot ignore the threat of a country with an unpredictable (read: insane) dictator and nuclear weapons (most sources verify that they have, or at least have the means to produce nuclear weapons, although as we have seen, not necessarily the means to deploy them)

Yeah, But the Japanese weren't beaten down by Allies and Humiliated on the global stage. They in some parts, had some say in what went into their constitution. Un like post WW1 Germany, where France and Great Birtain decieded everything, and Japan now doesn't need a militiary. Instead of Focusing funds and tax dollars to Military growth, it was used to further development and Modernization.
