[model][WIP] pistol (making a new one)
Well, the reason I think no bore, is whenever I look up Katarn's models there isn't one. I agree it looks better though.Dole wrote:a shallow bore won't hurt, it gives the weapon dimension and amplifies the work of the skin, makes it much more eye pleasing... especially for the person staring down the barrell!![]()

use the primitive "plane". insert vertexes and drag em around, etc etc. here, katarn does a good job of explaining.

Dude. No. Do you even know who Katarn and Snaf are? They are some of the few 1337est modelers that have ever set foot in CE. =D

i'd just like to see someone starting off learning the right way early. trust me, i started a bad habit (spline), my stuff looked "ok", i stuck with it, then i found out about plane modeling. totally changed my experience. now, i plane model everything. yup, everything i model starts off with a 1x1 segment plane.

without a doubt, that is very true. plane modeling starts as a headace but evolves into a graceful dance within the viewports, you, the and the mouse making magic. ok so that's an exageration, whatever.
point is, it'll get easier and easier.
you'll eventually be able to do stuff like this with plane:

i posted thumbnails because i didn't wanna hijack your topic. now that you see what can come of plane modeling, i hope it encourages you.

Oh, the wonders of spline modeling.
I suppose it is my fault for alot of people modeling with splines and extruding. Ive moved back to London from Paris, and I have about 20 PM's asking how to make a car with splines.
I am also forced to correct people who call it plane modeling, when its technically called Poly to Poly modeling, or polygon modeling as a more general term.
