how can i connect my computer to my laptop over "LAN" so we can play together?

through a router or hub or cross over cable i.e computer to your laptop (direct connection, which youd require a crossover cable not an ethernet cable)

No, actually all me and my friend do to play lan is use a phone cord and hook up the two computers through ethernet and it works just fine.

but what if you want more then 2 comps? then you have to go through a router i think.
