Banchee Barrier...

Post by dazzajay »

now i might have accedently discoverd something, a while back i had a post asking how to remove the banchee barrier, but it wasnt possible,

so i was just stuffing around with boredum and i noticed something,...

first, how many of us have the Map Pack?

because i noticed something in an unmodded containment.map,
now for those who dont know, there is a way to drive the spectra up a wall and get ontop of the level, and not only that once up you can drive up another sharp peice of metal and get right right up to the top, now this is like 3 times higher than the banchee can get before its held back by the banchee barrier.

it seems that the Spectre can go straight thru the banchee barrier, so i started experementing and discovered a few things,

now the checkbox in CH2R that you click for "Banchee" in order to make the jeep fly along with the flying tags.... when you tick that it makes the spectre (when flying) hit the barrier, now if im thinking straight, there must be some way to make the Spectre fly without ticking that, if that is possible then it will fly and not be phased by the banchee barrier, if that works then i can build a flying jeep from the Spectre and have it completly ignoring the barriers, but the problem is, unless i tick "Banchee" instead of "Ghost/Wraith/Spectre" it wont fly, it will just hover like normal.
so theres something in that area thats missing.
and if we can find out whats missing and / or whats different then we can get a flying vehicle thru the banchee barrier without it even thinking twice about it.

so maby trying to get rid of the barrier is going the wrong way about it, and simply ignoring the barrier might be eaisear.

Any thaughts / ideas on how to get this working properly?

:::EDIT:::
another thaught, on "Newmombasa" i noticed that AI characters can fly straight thru the barrier as if it dosent exist, but the second you jack the chee, bang the barrier kicks in, so there might be somthing different with MC that the enemy AI dosent have, so there might be an eaisear way there aswell.

actually i think there is a script or something that stops all vehicles labled banshee or has has the fly box checked, one of those two has to be it, it will be effected by the barrier. and it's not just the spectre that can go past it when it doesnt fly because i have gotten a ghost on top of most levels. also depending on what you want to do and if this is related to your videos, you can go though barriers for a short time if you mess with the vehicle right, and i'm not talking about editing the speed. the only problem is that if you stop moving you get slammed into the ground very hard.

G'day Mate, first of all, i write everything in MS word (i hate that app) then i run a spelling and grammer check, if you have problems with my spellling / grammer complain to microsoft about thier peice of shit app.

and if you read it, you would clearly notice this line...

and by that i mean, quite a few things,
1, i am not trying to remove the barrier, as that was what my old topic was about, and that idea failed.

2. the AI can fly thru it as if its not there.

so that leaves me with the thaught, why not just fly thru it, and i have noticed a few things, any non flying vehicle is unaffected by the barrier,

also....

it musnt be the Flying tickbox as when i looked at the stock Spectre, its allready had it ticked, it wasnt untill i ticked "Banchee" instead of "Ghost/Wraith/Spectre" that it was then affected by the banchee barrier.

and also, from how you explained your way wont work too well for filming pourposes, as i am planning a lot of things for that area up there, pelicans, Raptors and various other things.

wich brings me back to, the thaught its part of the vehicle... but now i just realised that if you fly up at thr right angle backflip and bail the banchee will keep going up thru the barrier unaffected, (untill gravity pulls it down) so there must be something about the playable character (MC and the ELETE) that holds the vehicle back.

and thats what ive been thinking, but unable to find anything.

i also thought it had something to do with being the player because i know that vehicles arent effected by the barriers when noone is in them, it's just a matter of seeing if there is something on the bipeds.

my chain of thaught is traveling along those lines, as the AI in campaign are completly unphased by the barriers.... but where the difference is will be the hard thing to find...

It's definitely not just in the bipd tag. Ever tried getting the scarab gun in campaign? It's probably coupled with the banshee or something. It could check the banshee AND flying boxes. if we can, try to get a non-flying banshee into contact with a banshee wall with someone in it. maybe on the scarab gun level...

getting back to the subject, i used Shade's new BSP app that moves stuff, hopeing it would move the banchee barrier, i found 10 things called "VehicleStop" so i excessivly moved them straight up, and it turns out that they werent the barrier,......

Whats missing from this picture? (Apart from the sky)
Image
if you said them barrier thingy's that usually go in that doorway, you would be right,

well, its not what i wanted to move / remove but it is cool, so im still stumped on removing / moving the banchee barrier... any ideas?

But, the Spectre allready has the "Flying" checkbox ticked, even tho it hovers as usual, it isnt affected by the barrier..... wich leads me to belive the problem is somewhere else, it wasnt untill i ticked "Banchee" instead of "Ghost/Wraith/Spectre" that it was then affected by the banchee barrier.

Don't all the turrets have "flying" checked? It seems that the flying checkbox is mislabeled, or at least that there's more to it than just flying.
