Need some help with modding and where to get map mods

I am new to modding games so this stuff is probably a sinch for you. Last time I tried to install a mod it kept saying I need a certain program to open the files that needed to be modded, can I just open the with notepad? Where can I get map mods? Are the mods an addition to my current levels I have or do they just change the levels? If anything I asked is not allowded please tell me and I will remove it. Thanks

Ok, I will search. I just noticed your in Syracuse, me too. Isnt this weather weird? Ok, I wil search now but will I find any map mods that I can download?

The files forums is off of the home page right below the forums link. You have to register seperately there too.
