System requirments
System requirments
Hey, I know practically nothing about modding (like all you experienced people havn't heard that before!) but I want to learn! Remember, you can't know something.....unless you..umm...yeah, learn it. If you "flame" me or call me a "n00b", or make me the victim of any other ritualistic nerd-wana-be attacks, then I don't care. Remember, the true computer nerd, or hacker, or expert, or whatever, only wants to help other people learn, not "flame" them.
So here are my two questions, I've looked around a bit, but havn't found the answer on the forum...
1) When you people mod maps on your computers with whatever programs you use, do you actually see a 3-d model of the map on your computer?
2) What are about the system requirments for doing this stuff?
Thanks!

ahhh, I see...I thought that people actually saw a model of the map... i guess i thought this because i once saw a kid making a map for Counter Strike with a program like that...
without seeing it, it seems like this will be pretty difficult....but hey maybe not. i'll have to start reading tutorials!
thanks for the info

Yeah, don't be scared... just start with stuff like projectile swaps and work you way to better things (maybe move on to weather then skinning and eventually into hex)
I recoment using Insolence as it "properly" <you'll learn what that means later- mods maps (unlike the other common programs like DotHalo and Ch2r and AGI or whatever). I have all of them but primarily use Insolence

Well, is the map you are opening(Coag) in the same directory as the shared and mainmenu maps? If not it is because it needs to get some of the shaders from those maps...VoYdE wrote:i can never get dark matter to work right i have a map Coag and dark matter when i click bsbp or whatever nothing happens any clue?
If you do have it in the same directory, then all I can say is wait. I have had it take a while for no apparent reason to open the same BSP that takes like 20 seconds to open other times. Even after it opens the BSPViewer window, it stays black for a minute or so sometimes.
And on the matter of Darkmatter (

Well, I used to use a Celeron 433Mhz with 128MB ram and 2.5GB HDD with onboard video to mod. It worked fine for everything but Darkmatter's BSPviewer. And was damn slow for Sparkedit. Poor me. Oh well, got a 2.93 Ghz machine now(still could be better but I'm not complainingJuniorman030790 wrote:I reccomend atleast a pentium3 for modding. i'm not sure what kind of gfx card you need(that depends on how much you want to view the map)
