I don't think this rule is unfair at all, although I didn't mean to say only Serenity, I just forgot to say ppf. PPF would work too, but not sized ppf because the ppfs generated by sized ppf are too large to be hosted on Halomods. But, the problems with sized PPFs is an entirely different discussion.

I've already talked to DoorM4n and many others about this and after talking to them, they usually agree it's a good rule & not unfair..
The reason for this rule is that you can only make a Serenity or ppf of a (relatively) proper map, so by enforcing this restriction, it encourages people to try to create proper maps. Usually if your map is improper, like this one, and a patch can't be made, it requires you to LEARN what is wrong so that you can fix or avoid it, which really ends up helping that person and the community in the long run.

Anyway, in short the rule is to encourage people to make proper maps. If you (or anyone else) would like to discuss any of the rules or their purpose or goal, feel free to PM me.

ummm no offence or nothing but isnt MOD of the month, designed so people could vote for the best mod of the month?? as the name would suggest? maybe we should rename it to "patch-o-rific no holes patch of the month"

just a suggestion, no sarcasm intended

all though I do agree with northy I can understand TJ2k4 he wants us to learn whats wrong with the map so we can fix it and make a patch.so instead of wasting time posting we should be working on fixing it, BTW TD im in georgia for the State football i think i told nate already and some others but just so ya know

Yes, the MoTM is designed to vote for the best mod of the month...But best is a relative term...Seeing as it's not called "coolest new most fun mod of the month", I don't think it's too much to ask that there be some general technical considerations to even bother applying...

I've seen mods win for things other than being fun, or re-playability...Such as: how many friends you have, technical achivements, skin layout, first impressions, etc...

I don't think requiring you mod be postable on HaloMods to ensure with 110% guarentee it's there forever when people go to look up the best mods to find is too much to ask for a competition on HaloMods...This does not limit you to ppf or serenity...There's nothing saying you couldn't make a map specific patch format that handled whatever crazyness you did to bastardize the map...Though your time may have been better spent making your map correct in the first place...

Besides, if people have to choose between posting the full map or learning to make their map correctly to be considered for official competitions...I can still sleep at night knowing a few decent mods don't qualify...

Rules aren't meant to make things easy...They're meant, as the expression goes, to separate the men from the boys...

Well Said. :)

I will try to help doorman the best that I can to fix the holes. I have an idea where most of them are. I know alot are in the sounds & I think there are a few in bitmaps.

well said Iron_Forge :)

as far as the map having holes in it, if you know what you are doing it's not that hard to make a fresh map into the same mod......with out all the holes....

Alright, I thought it was like just serenity. Anything able to be hosted on halomods is fine by me then.

but it would help and not be unfair if some of the 1337's would take the time to make a tut on how to fix map holes and such

simple, don't create them in the first place....I think the most common "map hole" is injecting bigger meta over smaller meta. go to tjc2k4's "Want to learn how the Halo 2 Map works?" page and it'll cover a lot of "map holes" or Improper Maps as it covers more than just "holes" in the map file. It's a very good read, I'm glad he took the time to write up

Like tycko said, take a few minutes and go over to tjc's website. There you will find many tuts about how the map is structured and why things work...some of which I didn't even know about. They are very in depth and are a great read if you're actually interested.

it might take a few days....but since you already have all the models and bitmaps and extracted stuff, then you'd know how to do everything, play it, play the original, find any differences then fix them in the new map (you should remember how.....) once you do it, it's not all that hard to redo it.....
