Modeling a Base

Post by babelfish »

OMG!!!!!!!!!
I have no clue what to do when it comes to modeling a base. I have modeled a small base before and even then I got errors. Can anyone help me create a base and get it through with my map without errors? Or give me an in depth tutorial on how to make one. I've searched many places but even as I try to use other tutorials it seems that my 3ds Max is messed up because my results don't turn out like theirs T.T
^^^^^^^^^^Most of my problem is with boolean. I'm trying to use boolean to make doors/windows because when I extrude edges and sht I always get errors when compiling.(open edge mostly)
I follow tutorials like the one from the HEK, the one from "fortresshalo", and even a number from this site. Also many from google but they never really help much :P)
So can anyone help?
Again I need someone to either help me construct my base or tell me how to do it myself.(I'd like help though :P)
Thanks :D

Boolean + Tool.exe = Many many errors.

Try to cut down on your boolean usage, also when you compile and get errors tool will create a file in your HaloCE root called yourmapname.wrl, import this file into 3dsmax and it will show you where it got errors and you can fix them.

Well thanks for telling me that boolean causes errors. But is there a better way of making a base? Please tell me. Also I already new about the .wrl file and how to import it but how do you FIX the errors. I watched Kirk's open edge error video tutorial but his map was perfect so it didn't help me since he didn't show us how to FIX the errors(no offense kirk XD)
Any suggestions?

Ya I've been there. That is what fortresshalo is. Also I like his tutorials and they were good for awhile but after my first boolean I couldn't do it anymore. I messed up the 3ds Max boolean settings somehow or something... :?

Imho RedFox knows how to make nice bases. But Im sure there r alot of experienced modders out there. PM some of them (e.g. you could search for nice pics theyve posted and ask how they create bases)
I tried hard and i failed miserably. The lesson is: never try?
