I don't mean to be a smartass...but if it is...then what's TF6?
This is far from a learning community. If this WAS a learning community, I (and TF6) would be so much more active. But this is a "look what I can do, I'm so cool give me credit and admire me" 'community'. Everyone wants to be famous, look at all the map resigners? It's been public information for about a year now, but everyone decides they want people to know their name so they'll make one with a cool background or something and release it with their name plastered all over it. If that's not proof, check out all the tutorial packs or program packs.
Anyway, I won't speak for the rest of TF6, but I help people whenever they ask for help, unless I feel that person is one of these 15-seconds-of-fame seekers. For example, if someone came to me and asked me "How do I move a tag from one map to another?", I would probably ask them what they've tried so far, or where they're at, etc. If they hadn't started or tried anything on their own, I'd probably ignore them. I'm not here to hold anyone's hand or walk them through things step by step. However, if someone came to me and said "I'm trying to inject models. I'd like to inject models of any size, so I'm shifting the map to make space for the new model when it's bigger. I'm having trouble updating interflexives in snd! tags, could you help me a bit?" I'd be more than happy to talk to this person and discuss what they're doing or should be doing or what would work and what wouldn't.
When people try things on their own, and only ask for help when they get stuck, I have no problem helping. That's also assuming they're not making another shitty app which will ruin every map it opens and do everything improperly just so that they can rush to get it out and have everyone know their name.
Unfortunately, it seems like nobody care anymore about the map files, what they are or how they work. This current generation of modders just opens the map up in a program, and does what they can with pointing or clicking or follows a tutorial which does something they'd like to do. It seems like if there's not a tutorial to do something, or if there's not a button in some program to do something, nobody does it or tries it or even thinks about doing it. It's frusterating. Sometimes programs even have the ability to do things for people and they still don't use them because they don't have a tutorial that explains how to use it step by step. Most people seem too afraid or lazy to ask how it works, or experiment & try new things or something.
I'm sorry that since I only help people who actually try to do things on their own (which seems to be a minority here), I (or TF6) come off as an unhelpful information hoarding bastard. It's not my fault for refusing to try and teach people who don't want to learn. You try it sometime.
