interpretation of led zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven&qu
<!--you guys seriously think i interpreted it bad?--!>
"There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's buying a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's buying a stairway to heaven."
-There is a lady who thinks everything is great (she probably has life easy). She is cheating her way to heaven. She is sure no matter what, she can still get into heaven.
"There's a sign on the wall but she wants to be sure
'Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings.
In a tree by the brook, there's a songbird who sings,
Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it makes me wonder."
-(This is a little more difficult). She finds directions, but she doesn't follow them and makes an excuse (I'm not too sure about this). The songbird is saying that what she is doing is wrong.
"There's a feeling I get when I look to the west,
And my spirit is crying for leaving.
In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees,
And the voices of those who stand looking.
Ooh, it makes me wonder,
Ooh, it really makes me wonder."
-(A lot of people misinterpret this I think). When I look to where I left from, I am sad, because I have had a vision of it burning.)
"And it's whispered that soon if we all call the tune
Then the piper will lead us to reason.
And a new day will dawn for those who stand long
And the forests will echo with laughter."
-If we all sing along everything will be okay (reference to heaven?), and we will be happy in our new place.
"If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now,
It's just a spring clean for the May queen.
Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
And it makes me wonder."
-(This is without doubt the most complicated part, notice the switch from me and we to you/your). If something frightens you, don't be afraid (hedgerow lines the outside of your house, and a bustle is a sudden movement, at least in bushes). (I don't really understand the may queen part, maybe its god testing you? i doubt it). There are two options, but if you must change before you get to the end, it is ok.
"Your head is humming and it won't go, in case you don't know,
The piper's calling you to join him,
Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind."
-God is calling you because you are worthy. The lady from the beginning learns she can't 'buy' her way to heaven.
"And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our soul.
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
And she's buying a stairway to heaven."
-As we die (shadows taller than our soul hints at one's past being longer than the future), god shows us that everything is still good (as in not evil). If you are very faithful, you will also see. When we are in heaven, she is still trying to 'buy' her way into heaven.
I'm atheist but i think there is a lot of god in this song.
I think it's pretty good. You guys give me some corrections!
im gonna be gone but ill come back
