A couple questions (weapon editing)

Post by phalanx »

Hello,
I am relatively new to the modding scene. At the moment I have my xbox softmodded. In the future I plan to install a mod-chip. But thats not really why I am here. I currently have a couple games stored on my Xbox's HD which I upgraded. One of those games is Halo 2. I have a few programs that allow the "modding" of Halo 2 maps, weapons etc. My main goal is to get comfortable with changing this such as the projectiles of weapons.

However, I am running into a little bit of trouble. I can add/remove maps to my mainmenu.map file and I can resign maps and load them properly. I currently have an edited version of the lockout.map file which I renamed to lockoutgren.map and have added it to the maps menu within the game. The problem I am having lies within the actual editing of the projectiles for the maps. I have looked on these forums, searched them, and search the internet but have not been able to find out enough information.

Basically, I am using Ch2r to edit the map. For learning how to mod I am trying to make it so that the Sniper Rifle fires a plasma grenade and that when you try to throw a plasma, you "throw" a sniper bullet. So... I went into the object/weapons/ etc etc and got to the sniper_bullt.proj file. I 'swapped' it with the plasma_grenade.proj (right click -> swap) and then changed things such as the weight so that the grenades don't just fall out of the barrell. That I got ot work fine. I also was able to swap out the SMG bullets for plasma grenades and the Shotgun Shells for frags. However, when I try to make it so you can "throw" the sniper bullets, I just can't get it to work.

Is this even possible? Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if its just pointing me to a tutorial or another site, or even anothe rpost within these forums. I'm looking forward to learning more. Thanks in advance!

On another note: when I tried to change the Plasma grenades to sniper bullets, I forget exactly what I did, but i got some kind of error. Then when I ftp'd back to my xbox the map failed to load. If i replace it with the original map it works fine but when I mod anything at all, even just the sniper-bullet to a plasma (which worked before) it refuses to load the map. I have cleared outt he xbox's cache and it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what could be causing this? Thanks again,

edit: i got this fixed... i'm all set, but i still need help with the weapons

Dot halo is a good program, especially for the old CD maps because you can use the signer built in to the program.
