i have xbox live but do i need a chip to play mods? or will i get banned from xbox live anyway if i try to use mods?

You can use a modchip or install a softmod to use mods, and yes, you will be banned if you use them on xbox live. More info here http://www.xboxscene.com/

what do i have to buy for it? and would i be banned if i used mods on campain?
