I need a free .dds editor

I need a free program that can work with .dds programs, but can still do everything Photoshop can.

no free program can do everything that photoshop can. But DXTBMP can edit .dds textures.........google it.

i dunno if gimp will work, but i guess it's worth a shot.
you can also try convim. open up in convim then save it as bmp or whatever
then open it up in gimp and texture then save.
then save it with convim.

Will that make mip maps? Otherwise you will only see the texture when close up to the model.
