In-game chat and 256mb cards

Post by deadmilkmen »

when i first installed halo pc, i upgraded to 1.05 and i could play online great and have loads of fun but in game chat would not show up. i could deal with this, however when i upgraded to 1.06 the game would crash before i could join a server or even host my own game. i read up about this and heard that it might be my video card because halo has some problems with 256mb video cards. is it possible to disable in game chat to prevent crashing with my card?

specs:
graphics: sapphire radeon 9600 w/ 256mb
CPU: amd sempron 2300 @ 1586 mhz
memory: 2x512mb 3200 generic ram
mobo: asus A7V880

Wow. You have the same problem I had.

You have to switch a file with your normal Halo's. I have Radeon 9600 Pro, and I had that problem. Here is the file. Just extract it in your halo directory, should work as a charm. If this didn't work, just re-install. If it crashes, try again to put this file in your halo directory. Trust me. It will work.

Crap, there is no attaching here. I will PM you the file. Please look in your PM.
Why am I here?

u will need the strings.dll file for 256 MB gfx cards, u can get it on microsoft. com/games/halo or sumtin, u can find it there and then u only need to install it and replace it with ur old file
