swapping out weapons in halo2

i am a beginner at modding. i never modded halo, but did play nmp and all of the map packs. now that halo2 is out with all of its great tools i have started getting into modding. i know how to add maps to the main menu, make the sniper rifle shoot sticky grenades, make i.e. shotgun spawn instead of the needlers, change the power of the projectiles, etc. One thing that I am having problems with is this: I would like to mod lockout so that no weapons spawn on the map, but plasma_grenades spawn in place of the weapons. I am using dothalo for modding, and I am not able to place plasma_grenades in place of weapons, because the grenades are equipment, not weapons, it will not let me replace them. I have tried by just making the plasma pistol be replaced by the plasma_grenades, and then just putting pisols as starting weapons. I got the plasma pistol to look like a plasma grenade sitting on the floor, when I walk over it it tells me to pick up the plasma pistol, and it drops plasma grenades when I shoot. I have also made the frag grenades look like stickies, but they throw plasmas (this is probably just a projectile problem, I haven't looked into it yet). If someone could explain to me how to do this, if possible.

edit: i think i need to change the item collection to the plasma grenade, but i get an error in dothalo whenever i try that!

although i am by no means an expert in the matter, i think you would need to look at the objects instead of the weapons.
all the weapons are in there, i think that is what are the things that are on the ground, and they take on weapon properties once they are in your hands...
