What are you tring to do? Play on xbox live, cuz if thats the case, you shouldnt need to put in your ip address manually. But if not here is a quick set of instructions to obtaining your IP
1. click start and go to run
2. type in "cmd" and your DOS command window should pop up
3. type in "ipconfig"

You should see your IP address displayed along with some other information about your network that might help with this DNS thing.

What connection do you have?

DSL?

Dial-Up?

If its Dial up go to your connection to the internet in"My Network PLaces" and click properties in I think advanced check the box thats says let other computer connect to the internet through this one or something like that.

I have a cable modem, my ISP is charter communications (I read on xboxlive.com that taht is a reliable isp). I'm connecting through a modem. I unhook the white cable from the back of my computer, that connects to the computer, and plug it into the xbox, and it doesn't work. The modem stays connected to the net, but it still doesn't work.

Try putting it in a Demilitarized Zone, just make the Hostname of the Xbox ,"Xbox" in the network settings on your xbox...

I have DSL and I still don't need PPoE on, set everything to automatic, and then just change the host name to Xbox and see if that helps...
