How to start

Post by lanzo »

Start by downloading sparkedit. Its an easy program where you can move stuff around and make teles. Then get Hex and HMT. You will need to download a list of offsets for hex so go here http://www.modhalo.com/tutorials/tools.htm that should get you started.

Sigh...I wish people would introduce them to the HEK and tutorials instead...

Oh well, follow what they said!

No, aaron, they won't.

It's the fact that they get stuck to HMT, and then get so angry that it doesn't work in CE that they switch back.

Happens so many times, I've seen it in my own eyes.

I had to force myself to switch, and let me tell you it was easy.
I've created a map and such for other games such as Half-Life 1, and some if it's modifications, so I had a basic understanding of real modding. It won't work with HMT, that's Hex. It was easy for me, but not easy to learn. I had to go through the frustruation that I couldn't open the map in HMT also, and that I couldn't use my custom "skins."
Now I realize that custom skins are sort of cheating. Editing the multipurpose can give you a better glow in the dark, or you could brighten textures/remove lightmaps easily in HMT. Once done, winning days for people against you are over because of a simple cheat.

HEK is Halo Editing Kit, you use to mod Halo CE (Halo Custom Edition) it inculeds 3 tools to create user created maps (guerilla, sapien, and tool) you also need to get a 3000 dollar modeling program or a crappy free one...

for tutorials on how to use the tools go back to the files2.halomods.com and go to the tutorial section

I do use CE too, but the thing is, my PC can hardly run MAX. It takes 5 minutes to just load it up.

Just use Gmax! It's not crappy it all...

All it's missing from 3ds is the cool world-render animation sequences, and some Modifiers. Map making is exactly the same, except you use Chimp.

Also, the HEK was made by Bungie. It is a set of tools that actually made Halo itself. HMT was a program released to help ease Hex Editing Halo.

Lemme guess, which one would I choose  ?

So it DEFINATLY can't be as good...

Remember, Scenerio files are deeply hidden. Kornman is like the genious on PC and CE! He's figured out so many things. I bet if you ask him, he'll tell you it won't be able to.

He has his own little "Guerilla" for Halo 2, if you check out the EP Forums.
