Projectile Swapping in Guerilla

Post by Ermac »

Okay, I have done plenty of projectile swaps and stuff through HMT and HHT... How do I do so in Guerilla?

I opened the assault rifle.weapon file and changed the projectile tag to one from a different weapon, but it had no effect. Is there something else I need to change or compile?

You don't change it in already made maps, you compile new ones (ie. tutorial.map that comes in the HEK, or custom maps).

Once changed in Guerilla, compile the map, and the changes will be processed into it. You cannot compile already-made maps, because that would be stealing (besides tutorial which came with the HEK).

So how do I compile my map to work with the altered tags. I already have a map exported that works, is that stuff that needs to be changed through Sapien?

Sapien is just the placement/sound/portalling/ and more program. The HEK tutorial tells how to compile.

not for custom weapons. I know how to compile the level. How do I compile with editted tags?

You don't compile the edited tags. When you compile the level, it's all done in there. The tags, and all, get compiled straight into the map. If you need to compile fresh .tif bitmaps or something to .bitmap, then it's a bit different.

Well, I have compiled the level multiple times, and the projectile did not change for the assault rifle, so either I'm doing something wrong or changing the wrong thing.... :(

Hm, did you open the AssaultRifle.weapon tag, scroll down, and select the new projectile in the "projectile" area? The compile tutorial?

The compile tutorial that came with HEK? didn't really cover anything on customizing weapons. If there's a different one, I missed it...

I'm looking at the assault_rifle.weapon and there is not an option to add a projectile. Its a subsection of trigger... Do I need to add a whole new trigger just to change the projectile?

No, scroll down! On the left, you should see the text "Projectile." On the right of it, is the textbox that has the assault rifle projectile selected. Just change it to what you want!

I did, and it doesn't change anything when I load a custom level up.

No, you have to compile the custom level first, like I've said.

You navigate to the CE directory in CMD (or use Tool++ for easier use).

Then, type in:

tool build-cache-file levels\test\tutorial\tutorial

Your modified Assault Rifle will be compiled into a new tutorial map.

Thanks for the patience, I got it earlier this afternoon. I just don't think I compiled after I had made the changes earlier on. I probably reverted changes to the original or something.

But I did get it finally. Thanks 8)

No problem!

If you are making a new skin or texture, don't overwrite the original .bitmap files for it. Just compile new ones with a different name, and edit the shader for that thing to point to your custom .bitmap also.

Try going to www.halowiki.com for some nice tutorials including level geometry, weapon/vehicle creation, and more!

No, he already got it. PM'ed me about it.

Besides, what else is there to use besides Guerilla? Everything else is all compressed editing...not the real deal.
