3D Modelling Help, Building a Basic Structure

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

3D Modelling Help, Building a Basic Structure

Post by Ermac »

This should be something really simple, but its a pain in the neck for me to learn 3D since I'm not very artistic.

I'm working on building a building. My method for doing so is by creating a bunch of Boxes and then lining them up. The problem is however when I export the map, Tool says that there is a collision model problem. What would be the best way to do this... should I be Welding my boxes together, or just line them up really close without touching, or is there a better way to do this?

Thanks

well, you have to put them close together, then weld the verticies together so that they are there, not seperated, but attached.

Collision problem means that they are crossing over eachother.

If I weld them, will I have the same flexibility to edit wall sizes and stuff? Or should I just wait until I'm close to having the structure done and then weld them.

If you go into my tutorials which are in the link in my sig in the download section, I tell you how to make and texture a simple base.

You always have the same flexibility, but you wont be able to change the numbers for changing the box segments or size, but if you go into editable mesh or editable poly, and look on the right you can click on a button that looks like 3 dots, which if you put your mouse over will say "Vertex" You can do that, select move and move them wherever you want, So you kinda get more flexibility.

Do you think you can make a tutorial on how to make an animation, have like a plane and make it look like glass...and then reactor it or whatever so you make a bullet look like it smashes through it? If thats possible, It might be too hard to show,
