playing xbox in tv tuner...but experiencing video lag help!

Post by BustedNose »

Hey guys!

First, I have the HP 864N Media Center PC.

I have plugged the xbox cables into my tv tuner (i convert the yellow thing into the s-video). I use a program called Movie Mill to play the xbox and it can record too! Great quality video clips i can now make plus play my xbox through my monitor!

However, even though that sounds good..i have a problem!

When I play, there is a 1 - 2 second delay from what i have done on the control and what appears to the screen! Basically you can't do much then....like halo 2 is like impossible to aim! Like the graphics and everything are perfect, it is just the delay of the video and my actual actions.

Is there anyway I can fix tihs? Boost the performance or something?

If you need more clarification..just ask...

Thanks a lot!

I am hoping to start making vids so plz help!

Its a common factor..

I can easily conclude that it must be the connection.. its too slow or the hardware is.. well.. not very good.

The tv tuner you speak off.. is it internal in your pc?

I would recommend getting an external capture card... I have mine and It works really good (works with 1394 Firewire)

But yah.. it all depends.. your computer could handle it, but idk what type of harware you have.

Well I have the HP 864 N, if you want you can do a google search...but the tv tuner card is internal.

I do have a firewire port i can use.

My computer has 1 GB Ram, 128 MB Geforce Card, 2.67Ghz P4, etc., 160 GB HD, etc.

Is this good enough for what you speak of?

If so, plz tell me which card you have and which software is required...

Thanks.

Your system sounds good.. I cant tell what is causing that lag.. mostly becuase I never dealt with it.

I bought my Pyro A/V Link for $150. Hasn't been anything that I couldn't do with it.

Well, could it possibly be the software that I am using (Movie Mill)? That is the only program that I could find that would take the video-in so I could see the xbox screen? Are there any of software available? Also, with your pyro link, does it come with the software needed to do this?

Thanks a lot

I use PlayDV for some decent real-time player.

Also Pyro A/V Link comes with Ulead Video editing software and thats about it. Drivers are included in Windows XP, so thats great becuase it will work on any Windows XP Computer. It also has Windows 98 drivers if needed.

just go to like a best buy(thats where i got my stuff) and ask them for a splitter for a compisit video coard (ya kno the red yellow and white coards)
this is the only way i know how 2 record without video lag
they might not have the kind of coards that u will need in this case you might need 2 make ur own it shouldnt be that hard

what did I say in my first post here??

Its common.. cant fix it. Also make sure you are using Xbox controller, they work a little better than 3rd party with the lag problem.
