3DS Max is messed up. HELP!!

well when i try to open 3DS Max 6, it is loading and where it tells you what files its loading, it always freezes when its loading mentalray.dlz , is there any way to fix this or is it something that SP2 does cause i have used it fine and then i stopped using it for a long time and updated to SP2 and now it dont work. ive re installed and re booted but nothing works. please help

3ds max 6 wont work with SP2. Word from discreet is to uninstall SP2 if you want to use 3ds max.

I dont think thats right, my 3ds max 6 works fine with SP2, but i dont know why.

3dsmax6 and 7 work fine on my computer with sp2 installed

service Pack 2, it is an automatic update for windows XP, as windows XP is service pack 1, basically service pack 2 is a large update, containing mainly security updates for XP in attempt to stop unwanted downloads, and people accessing your computer without permission.

you would have SP1 obviously, which is Windows XP just.

well i didnt even have sp 1 when i upgraded to sp2. i had hotfix. does that mean i would have windows hotfix again?

you see, on windows every so often they release a hotfix, there are lots of them, they just fix a certain area, like if there is a virus out, they would release a hot fix so you dont get one. A hotfix is just a small update, a service pack is a large update.

well it didnt work even after un installing sp 2. ooh well. is there any way i could just deleate that mmentalray.dlz file and it still function properly?

You could do, although if you did you would loose part of the mental ray render system...
