Try clicking on the desktop and pressing F5 (Refresh) or right click and select refresh, if that doesnt work then maybe you have changed some settings in the display control panel.
If in doubt restart your computer, that could reset the desktop back to normal.

Being a shortcut doesnt effect it.. Try to run one of the icons that has no picture (I surgest Xfire) If it runs then its not that bad, if it does its a virus that is slowly stopping all .exe's , If its that its called (Gah cant remember) but I had it at its bad.
If the program works, then just restart computer and see it that makes any difference. Or if that doesnt work, try re making the shortcuts if you use them alot.

ALSO the virus might of gotton onto this site
hahahaha, lol, lol, lmao, lmao, oh how i love computer illiterates. jk, but no that is very unrealistic, first of all that the virus infects every file on ur computer, whether its past, present, or future, is unreasonable, a normal computer would stop responding if a virus attempted that. If it did effect the file it would need to be run by the site in order for it to effect the site itself, however others could of downloaded. As for the cause of ur problem it may just be somthing got screwed with in shell32.dll, where all of the icon shit is storred, at least in WINXP
