wip: saiga 12

Finish a new model/mesh? Got something you're working on? Finish a new map? Here's the place to post it for feedback and whatnot.

I use cylinder modelling for most of my stuff. I do sometimes use box though when I need to. But mostly cylinder.

What i would do if i wanted to make somthing round was make a box (I always start 1x1x1 btw) and chamfer the edges on it to make it look more rounded and work like thatm so they are technically the same thing, except you start with the object, I prefer box modelling because I can make a very very rough boxing overlay of the model i would create, then cut, chamfer and add details to it so on.

I mainly do box modeling.
Splines back in the dumb zmodeler was hard looking.
What happened to plain BOXES WITH VERTICIES!!!?

heh, i guess i do a few things lol. i used to do box and cylinder models, but that took forever...i moved vertices yada yada yada, then i tried this spline modeling and damn it is extremely fast. cut and boolean make use of primitives nice and easy, although the operation is very...unpredictable :? .

Dude. No. Do you even know who Katarn and Snaf are? They are some of the few 1337est modelers that have ever set foot in CE. =D

You dont know advanced spline, nurbs curves so on with spline you can do anything, you are limmitless, I use spline for every model copy i do, the stuff in my tutorials is the very very simple way of doing it. maybe i will make a tutorial on it all someday, "The theory of spline", hmm maybe i will write a book...

heh, we don't need books, we need more video tutorials! nurbs would be cool to learn. i saw that option but didn't move into the unknown.

Yeah, it is kinda unused, i only use it when i wanna model somthing very precise, otherwise I use editable mesh, but editable poly is probably a better option, I sometimes use it for making cuts and so on, editable poly is good for head modelling.

It isnt hard, just get a plane, and extrude some edges a little, use a bit of weld, do a bit more stuff and voila, not much need for tutorials its so simple, just people cant get their heads around it, if you can plane model a sphere like shape, you can model just about anything.

update: i sent off a map and the shotgun to cmdr. if all goes well (as in i haven't made nice looking total crap) it'll be in the map. if you remember the wip map "hunted" then i think you'll be excited to hear that he may get me a compiled map tomorrow sometime! (sorry to put the pressure on you like that cmdr!!! just excited!!!) anyways, anyways... what you've seen, i guess is the final version. i was going to modify the barrel but...eh...whatever. nice simple model. the clip is seperate from the gun, so i think the sniper riffle reload would be cool for this.

well i recieved the beta not too long ago, and i gotta say that this was great. i've noted the flaws and notified cmdr about them. this shotgun ripped it up in the beta, i was VERY satisfied with it. cmdr is the man! he spiced it up a little bit for me, and heh, wow it was cool! i don't want to post screens of the beta. there's still much to be done to it, like adding the trees and such, but cmdr is the man, and hopefully i can get maps out to him that are a good quality, so that we can get them out to you guys. oh, and darkstorm995, thank you so much for the link, the tutorial was awesome! plane modeling owns all others. period. i still have to watch about optimizing and smoothing groups, however.

happy turkey day peoples, i already got mine!
