new computer now can't connect

ok I just got a new labtop and I can't connect to my box from it. when I have my cable hooked between my computer and box my box doesn't recognize a connection. can any 1 help me?

Do you have to correct settings for you to ftp to your box, if not, then set that up first

if your xbox and comp are hooked up directly its most likely your using a patch cable. u need a crossover cable because patch is designed to get a designated ip from a rounter and then assign it to your xbox. if u want to directly hook up your xbox and comp you would need a NIC card and a crossover cable. if not you need to be on a router

yes I am directly connecting to my box. are NIC cards expensive? and is a crossover cable the same cable I would use for xbox system link?

will i dont know for sure, but a cross over cable can be bought at most computer stores.. Also, if you have a router/hub its not that hard to connect using those, therefore, you can hook up several xboxs and have them all on the same network for when you do want to play on system link.

well nic's are about...id say 15$ at your local computer store and a crossover cable is intirely different than your regular patch cable that you use to connect to play online. if you want to connect directly just grab 20$ and go to your local comp. store get a NIC card and crossover cable and you should be set. but there are great advantages with getting these things becuase when you run on a router there is so much you an transfer...lets say ftp to your xbox. going thorugh a router, most of them only allow 10mb/p/s. but if your running straight with a crossover cable you may get transfers up to 100mb/p/s! becuase there is nothing restricting transfer rate. also i dont know if im correct on this one but playing online...i think it will make it go qiucker also but im not sure. but read up on www.xbox-scene.com for tuts on how to setup ur network with the new NIC and crossover cable.

most newer routers allow 100, and if they dont then you just have to look into them and you can change the settings... By look into them i mean go into the address

if you have access to a network crimper and some crimping cable you can build your own crossover cable.

hey rj45 cables can be pretty pricey, compared to buying a box of 1000 ft for 37 dollars and some head's for like 4.99. but then you just gotta find something to do with all that cable, i guess you could play halo with your apart complex
