I am making my first map in gmax and I think it's pretty cool And I ahve a ffew questions anf pics:

1. How would I add water to map? Or does everymap come with water at Z, 0,0?

However I AM going to need a skinner for this map, seeing as how I don't have photoshop.If anyone would like to volunteer they can have their half of the credit for it.

Feel free to name names ppl I can't think of one maybe you can! Vote for the names you like.

Hypothermia is the official name new name of Killa1, Killa's new map. Now, a name for your map.... hmmmmm....... *thinks* ............ Box01 is good.

How about... Fortressall?

You see that big hill thingy that isn't quite finished in the middle? There's gonna be tunnel leading up to the top, and a huge fortress containing the tanks and shees.

MS Smooth off the mountians.
Use smoothing groups.

What do you mean (xbox bigafair)? Well how would I smooth it out? I know it's really angular. Tell me how to smooth it out.


Hey is it posible to put arealy working gravity lift in a map? One that will actualy push the players up into the sky? cus I got a really cool idea.

The covenant battle orb is a giant armored orb that floats on anti gravity and hold up to 16 banshees (not in map though cus that would be stupid) has plasma turrets all over it (not in the actual map cus it would be to easy to kill people from it altitude), and boasts the covenants best armor (not destroyable in map).

It will be centered in the middle of the map with banshees parked inside it and teleporters and hopefully a gravity lift.


If I have to start over I'll make this level again until it works.

Well, if the orb is the main part of the map (it is in center and so on) I owuld name it after that, I dunno, "Orb" would probably just do.
Also,

About a "gravity lift" You can make normal lifts in the map, but i know what you are thinking about, What you could do, is make an invisible load of objects all the same which move up, like this:

and improving on this, delete the bottom half of the cylinder, then there will only be collision on one side, and that one side will just be a plane.

Well I was planning the orb to havea gravity life on it's underside that you could ride to it. But I can't realy think of a way to get the players off the life and onto the ground. I think they could walk but I don't know, my secondary is to make the lift go up into a teleporter and you would reappear inside the orb.

My thirdary (whatever it's called, idk) is to make the gravity life just for show and have teleporters on the map that go up there.

Speaking of which I don't know how to use/make them... have to go look at HEk for a while... god there's alot of junk to read in it...


P.S. I didn't know you could animate maps... SWEETNEESS!!

You can make a gravity lift, look at the picture, and take away the glass as it isnt neccessary, you have lots of circular planes going up together, and then the top one gets moved back to the bottom and it carries on, and each gap between the planes would be the height of a master chief.

Do you understand? and http://www.halomc.com/files/AnimScen.zip is a great video tutorial on how to do a single lift, but for what you want you will use alot of these in a rotary sequence, go up, then when it reaches top, quicly moves under the one at the bottom, then they all go up, and the top one goes under the one at the bottom, and so on. You understand?

Then for it to go back down, you could use a teleporter... Have another gravity lift. I would use a teleporter to get down, because most people wont go down with the lift, they will fly their shee down.

Ok yeah I knew what you were talking about the lift stuff but, I think I'm finished modeling the map but now, I haven't a clue whatt to do. I've got HEK and CE and all HEK is is one big stupid tutorial! I opened up guerilla and sapien and I don't know what the **** Im supposed to do with em!

How do I get the **** map into the thing that places the rocks and stuff??

I know I need an exporter and I'll work on that right after this but HE: even a program, I don't know what to do! I'm gonna get he exporter and go over kirks tuts now but still I don't know how to put the skins on don't know how put teleporters in and I don't even know what to do next.

Well, i dont know anyone who made a map with gmax (everyone uses 3ds max) so i would download 3ds max 7/6 trial and get your map into there. Would save whatever problems you have with the tutorials.

I'mnot havin ANY problems I jsut don't know what to do next :? .

Like what do I do with sapien? Or guerilla? I am workin on the export right now but I keep getting this error "no geometry connected to the frame" I know what that means but I don't know how to connect thr map to th frame without the frame becoming the map or vice versa.

Lol " I AM FRAME! I SHALL ASSIMILATE YOU!"

Er, screw the tut I can't find what I am looking for, do you know how I might link the frame to the map? Just tell me how you do it in 3Ds MAX cus gmax and 3DS MAX are pretty much the same.

I have a way to make a gravity lift look like one but not really be one... just make a platform a custom scenery and then make like the explosion effect of like 50 trabillion rockets blowing up invisibly and do no damage. Thats how some people make like jump pads i think so that could be the same thing. or mabye you could make it a custom vehicle and it says press [variable] to enter gravity lift. then u press ur action button and then somthing else happens... well idk im jsut throwing out ideas 4 u.

HAHAHAHAHA! OHOHOHOHO! I got it to export! But when it does I get an error saying: "our of scriptor memory use options to increase"!

Anyone know how to "increase" my scriptor memory?
