Sorry i guess i didnt really explain my question right. The tutorial helped but im not sure if its what im looking for. I have a modded xbox and i have Halo saved on my harddrive so i can play it off of it. I see all the maps you can download on the internet so i downloaded it and just put the maps in the "maps" section hoping it was that easy. Well it wanst so i was wondering how i can put new maps on the game so i can play them. I hope this makes more sence if not oh well i wil have to figure it out. But if you know what i need to do please let me know.
thanks
thanks
compressed
the .map files are about 20 megs then so they are compressed but how do i play them then?? do i have to uncompress them?
BTW how's the weather in Sask? It's cold here in Ont.
Anyway, it sounds like it's compressed. What you need to do is run Halo off of the HardDrive or burn it to a disk. If it is already on your HDD, go into the directory Halo is in and go into the maps directory. Upload the compressed map you have into this directory and load up the level that the map is named after(ex:if the file is called chillout.map, load chillout. BeaverCreek is Battle Creek, Carousel is Derelict I think and PutPut is Chiron...I think lol.) Halo automatically decompresses the maps and puts them on either the X Y or Z drives. Mine usually goes to X.
And also, rabiv88 wasn't getting mad. He was just tryin to help.

I assume you unzipped or unrared it if you now have a .map file. Do what the other guys said if it's <mapname>.map
However, if it's a cache00X.map, then you need to ftp to your xbox, browse X,Y,and Z partitions until you find 5 cache00x.map files. Delete all those cache files. Then load halo on your xbox again. As soon as it loads, shut down the xbox and restart so you can ftp again. Now ftp back to where the cache00x.map files are, and copy the cache file you downloaded from here to that partition, overwriting the cache file of the same name. Hopefully you know what map to load, either from a readme that came with your modded map or from a post in the thread where you downloaded it. Just start halo back up and load the map and it will be modded.
I'm not sure if there is a thread on this site that explains how the cache files work, but just a quick summary (at least how I understand it, someone please correct me if I'm wrong):
Any game you play on the xbox uses partition X,Y, or Z to load the part of the game you're playing at the moment. When you play Halo, it loads whatever map you're playing into one of these partitions as a cache file. cache003, cache004, and cache005 are the three last multiplayer maps you played.
Note that if you load a modded Blood Gulch file as cache003, and you had played regular Blood Gulch recently, then you probably will have two Blood Gulch cache files and you may or may not actually get the modded map to load. This is why I suggested you delete all cache files, and then reload halo to create fresh (empty) ones before copying your modded map to the box.

mostly decent
oh ya and the weather has been pretty good here above normal anyways
Hi all, I just modded my xbox and installed the NMP 2/CXE pack this weekend...AWESOME STUFF!
I'm very new to modding, and I would like to ask if there is a faq/tutorial to help someone like me to make another map pack such as NMP where I can install modded maps I have downloaded so I can avoid the whole cache replacement thing discussed above. I would like to make an easy menu screen such as the NMP 2.0 or CXE screen so I can choose on-the-fly which map pack I want to play with.
Is this even feasible? Or will I need to first learn how Team NMP & Team CXE did their packages? I have also noticed that their menu screens link in a cycle between NMP2, CXE and retail. I guess I would need to edit CXE to point to my pack of mod maps then my pack to point to retail, correct?
Any input would be appreciated. Big thanx from a big n00b!
