Quick semi-inteligent question...(n00b question)

Post by Shadow_Fox »

If I got a mod, anorgd lets say I didn't think it was cool, could I just make two copies of the cache (one for the new one, and the old one) and when the new on gets boring, just delete it and put the old one back in?

Just thought I'd ask, because I might try an experimental mod I made, and if it didn't work, and needed alot more time, i would just move the old one back in...Right?

Also, would I have to download Pff-o-matic to do so? and can someone tell me what Pss-o-matic is and what a pff is?? thanks in advance

Well mother, life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're going to get. Your life on the other hand is like a box of active grenades!

Sorry about the "anyone?" thing

What i was trying to say is, if you have to copy the cache to edit it, could you make one copy the modded one, and keep the other copy as a back up if something happens to the mod?

I'd also like to know if i need pff-o-matic to edit the cache or cache editor or something, and can someone tell me what a pff is??

1st, You don't need to make a backup of your cache. All you have to do to get the original back is to delete all the cache files on the X, Y or Z drive(wherever it is) and reload that level.

2nd, a ppf is a file that is made when you compare a modded file with the original. It tells what has been changed from the original file. Then, the patching program looks at those changes and changes an original file into a modded one. Its helpful because ppfs are generally smaller than a whole map file. PPF-O-Matic is a ppf patching program. It lets you take the ppf's that you download from say Halomods.com(this site) :) and patch your original cache file so that it becomes modded.

And now I'm done rambling. :P

So all I really have to do is delete the modded one and load the map again?

Yes. Delete the cache000-5.map from the X Y or Z drives.
